Thank you to all the players at the AOW Heaven PBEM forum who played the first version of my map and send me their comments about the map. I made important changes based on their feedback.

And now, the story:

The Snargorz or The Book of the Council, as it is commonly called, details the story of Banenthu and Varindhur - twins, demigods and rulers of Gurak-Gurad or The Haven of Trees. Wise beyond their years and gifted with a kindly disposition, they were loved by one and all; so much so, that you couldn't find a more law-abiding place than Gurak-Gurad. Bored with the mundane aspects of daily administration of the state, they discovered the ancient game of Dúl - a game which tested the magical capabilities of the players by making them cast spells and counter-spells. Ensnared by the novelty of magic for magic's sake, the twins took to the game with a passion bordering on addiction. Fate had something else in store for them though...

One day when testing out new grounds for their magical spells, they ventured near the gateway to Lura-Khâs or The Plane of Fear. The magical castings disturbed the inhabitants of the cursed Plane, inhabitants who had not ventured into Gurak-Gurad for centuries and who were almost forgotten. The Lords of Lura-Khâs were enraged at such a transgression. Kel-Skel, the Blood Lord who wanted the blood of all creatures; Gahen-Dul, the Unholy Lord who caused disasters and deaths through them; Estack, the Lord of Disease whose work was to spread sickness amongst the living creatures and make them of most horrible diseases which caused the skin to turn mottled and yellow and swollen with pus; Glangath, the Lord of Death, the master of sudden death who caused people to die for no reason whatsoever.

These four Dreadlords, much like the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, issued an edict - the transgressors were to be brought into their Plane where the game of Dúl will be played between the Twins and the Dreadlords. And so it was done. With biased judgements and banned incantations, they turned the playful game of Dúl into a game of death - the victims being the two brothers. Mutilated beyond recognition by the magical castings, the brothers were buried under the ground near the gateway to Lura-Khâs...but not before the only recognisable part left, the head of Banenthu was hung from a tree. With the edict fulfilled, the Lords returned to their cursed Plane.

Years passed and the tree bloomed and started to produce fruits in the shape of Banenthu's head. The inhabitants of Gurak-Gurad, saddened by the loss of their benevolent rulers, rejoiced in this miraculous event and the tree became famous across all Gurak-Gurad...

(Thank you to Timelord for his help with this story. The second part of it is on the scenario description)
Update (4/25/2008): Fixed the the behaviour of a group of indies.

Map Design4.0
Playability: 4
The lightning storms on rivers are a pain. No real way to find or remember a path across.

Balance: 4
Seemed to be fair.

Creativity: 4
I liked the events that game extra armies to payback for effort to conquer cities, etc...

Map Design: 4
Nice map. Lots of detail and different areas. I like medium maps!

Story/Instructions: 3
Good background but is mostly a map to play without much story development in game itself.

Playability: 4
Very well designed in this aspect. Lots of things to do and on different parts of the map.
My one gripe is that since this is primarily a multi-player oriented map, the spawns after conquering Lura-Khas are a bit heavy - especially since they spawn everywhere.

Balance: 4
I think Ampros Eternita has a slight advantage over other players due to easily accessible Elven (druids/nymphs), Dwarven (gargoyles), Halfling (rogue) and Draconian (slithers) towns. Since wizards are separated by water primarily, this can snowball into a big advantage. Of course, this is offset by Ampros having no direct entry to Lura-Khas underground except via the hero that spawns on a different island; so I guess this balances out a bit.

Creativity: 4
Very Good. The storyline is nicely adapted for the map.

Map Design: 4
Also very good. The underground design is very interesting and offers a viable alternative to exploration on the surface. The halfling and elven ares are well-designed. The use of area guards on water coupled with lightning storms might be a bit heavy but it helps prevent rushing.

Story/Instructions: 4
Primarily multiplayer with an adequate story. Not too many events linked to actions and this is good. More events as one gets closer to Lura-Khas might flesh it out a little more.

Additional Comments:
A very good map, Unnapu! Hope this is the first of many. Nice work balancing the wizards, especially on a 3-player!
Map Design5.0
Playability: 5
I was playing this one in beta phase but it had already been well made. There are a lot of fun in 3 player map like this

Balance: 5
Except the presence of Saint AND Infernal Beholder, the map is very well balance. To be honest creating a balance for a 3 player map is not an easy job. The map is not symmetric but the balance is still well set.

Creativity: 5
Seeing this as his first ever map, Unnapu must have a talent for map making, although he does not seem to make good use of it :p

Map Design: 5

Love the landscape underground !

Story/Instructions: 5
No need a story for PBEM but this map has actually a very nice story and players can have fun role-playing it. I remember in the game with Torso and Hatifnat, we were calling each other brothers and momma and such :D

Additional Comments:

Great work Unnapu !
