Bewitched Land is scenario that is more oriented to war than to story line and quests. Eight wizards will begin to fight for dominance since start.
Shadow Magic staff is excluded from this map, i.e. there are no such races and Shadow World. Map has only two levels and most action will take place on surface.
I do not think that eight player map can be balanced in principle, because of each winning chance depended upon all players behavior. However, I do not know what player has initial advantage.
Scenario involves aggressive independents. However, you can simply remove them in editor.
Map has consistent realistic terrain style with out extravagances. I tried to recreate more medieval human realistic style than ancient style.
There are not very many cities on the map, but enough mines and power nodes as well as ruins. I tried to keep balance to prevent boring. So, map is designed for fast play with quickly turns even it is XL with 8 wizards.
Please, give suggestions and comments about the map. I will compare my vision of map with reviews.
Remember, map does not forgive strategic mistakes.

Playability: 4
The map is very challenging, which is the way I like it. However, the lack of resources and the distance between the towns make the build-up process a bit tedious.
Balance: 4
The map seems well balanced between the players. The Nomads have the unfair advantage that they can move their towns. I say unfair because building outposts is disabled.
Creativity: 2
A lot of planning went into the design for balancing purposes, but the country side is empty and uninspiring. The map could be much "prettier" without interfering with gameplay.
Map Design: 4
The overall design is very good for multiplayer. When playing alone it seems almost impossible to conquer the CPU at Emperor level without doing everything exactly right. I suppose that is how it should be. Personally I would allow building outposts.
Story/Instructions: 1
The map description and the message given to each player at turn 1 does not give the players a clue that building outposts is disabled. Nor any hints to a successful strategy. The author has probably meant them to be mood setters, but they end up as being "Once upon a blah blah blah".
Additional Comments:
I recommend the map to hardcore, masochistic players. If you are a group of 2-4 players looking for a long and fun game, use the editor to allow outpost building and increase the gold and mana income of each side by 50. |

This map looks great in strategic window but I wish it could be more detailed. There are huge distances between towns and they are almost empty. This reduces playability and AI challenge. I hope you will continue your work on this map, because after you add more datails it may be almost perfect. There are no instructions and story, so don't mind it's 3. |

Sir,
I supposed, that big distance between town increase playability, because of importance of one town. You should plan all very carefully. And redundancy of towns increases routine. What do you mean under “detailed”? Is it only landscape? |

Lev,
Computer may rethink it's strategy every turn. And the more turns it takes AI to reach it's goal, the more chance that it will retreat. AI calculates the difficulty of it's task and sends certain amount of troops to fulfil the task. So it's obvious, that before it may reach the goal, lot's of things may happen. This is the common problem of lot's of XL maps I played.
Well, I didn't say that your map is bad, did I? You used a standart thick brush to place flowers and stones and trees on the map. I saw better landscapes. Your's just good. |

Playability: 3
This is quite a a boring map to play, there is very little decoration and a lot of the stacks of roaming indies are the same. It looks as though it has been made in about half an hour.
Balance: 4
The dark elf wizard seems to have quite a raw deal, being fairly central in the map and half their crop fields being taken by the river, exposed to attack from all directions.
Creativity: 2
Very little creativity, really reminds me of a Kevin King map, the main difference being that he doesn't use full stops in his story. The use of English reminds me of the TV programme 'Allo 'Allo.
Map Design: 2
Needs a lot more work. Currently has stock heroes, stock wizards, stock wizard messages, stock items. Very flat and boring and lifeless, currently has no soul. No areas that you look at and think "Wow!", or "Oh, I haven't seen that done before!". Caverns all look the same.
Story/Instructions: 3
Poor use of English, but it does have a story.
Additional Comments:
Might as well play a random map, really. It's a bit like expecting to receive a Mercedes as your company car, and finding that you have been given a Trabant instead. Maybe take a look at Race to Death - Rise of Evil if you want an idea of what good map decoration looks like. |
