The King is dead, long live the King!
Dragon King Vosiliad has died of old age, Dragon Prince Vordigath will take the throne as
soon as he returns to Magradore. The Prince is currently sailing with friends and
exploring old ruins.
The land is quiet, for who would dare disturb the Dragons? None the less, it is
essential that the Prince return to Magradore and take up the Dragon Crown immediately.

Playability: 5
Great. This is fun map which offers a lot of depth and different strategies to win. It never bogs down.
Balance: 5
Perfect. It is a good, interesting challenge. You have a sprawling but run-down empire, surrounded by powerful enemies -- a bit like the latter days of the Roman Empire. The Teleportation Chamber link between the two capital cities give you an edge that you need to use wisely, and you must make good use of your five heroes as well.
Creativity: 4
It has some good ideas: the general situation of a sprawling empire beset by enemies on every side; and the use of an "Underground" section which is really another continent of above-ground linked only by teleporters.
Map Design: 4
It is a great map, except that it has too many teleporters! The two teleportation chambers in your two large cities are OK and so are the short-range ones to cross the rivers, but I especially hate the invisibible, one-way teleporters where enemies pop in on you without warning, or you drop into enemy territory with no way to get back.
Story/Instructions: 3
If the story was improved, this could be a great map, rather than merely a good one. This map does have a story and it does have a few special events to keep it going, but it could be told better. The big problem is that much of the story is told in a long, complicated Tutorial message at the very beginning of the game. Even players who read all of it carefully will get confused by all the proper names, which mean nothing until about the third time you play this map. More messages and special events throughout the game would add more interest.
Additional Comments:
Although this would not be my choice for Best SM Map Ever, certainly it is a fun and enjoyable map, well worth the time to play it and better than most of the maps of the original SM campaign. The fun comes from playing the draconians -- not used on very many maps -- and the strategic challenges of balancing your heroes and forces on all these fronts. Recommended.

Fun map, but too many teleporters to my liking. Hard too keep any real fronts with all the teleporters, but OTOH using teleporters is the one thing the AI is good at...
Balance: 4
I felt the map had the right degree of difficulty. Excecpt for the very well defended enemy HQs and the Dragon recruit sites, things (battles and items) are balanced.
Creativity: 3
Nothing too cliche, but nothing new either.
Map Design: 3
Map looks nice enough, but a bit empty some places. The abundance of teleporters, combined with the heavily guarded enemy HQs means using 2-3 killer stacks to take out one enemy, teleport and then take out the next. Would have been more fun with more defined fronts and having several main armies.
Story/Instructions: 3
Nothing much after the initial background story.
Additional Comments:
As usual from Alex Mars a fun, solid map.
The AI was quite active in the map, which is a big plus. |
