Thanks for downloading this map, I had a ton of fun making it. If you're new to Age of Wonders, and don't have AoW1 then I doubt you played Poilio. No matter, the first map's kind of explained in the intro. This is a fun map, light and not in the least bit serious, and it is also a small map, a 1 versus 1 map, Man vs. Machine. The Halflings are playable by you, the player, and the Goblins are not. They are cpu and their difficulty level is set to emperor. You will read about the map in the game, go have fun.
UPDATES:
-There’s a bridge now across the river to allow the Goblins to attack you.
-The killer frog’s now only have a 75% chance of popping up.
-Put a header for every message.
-Jimmy and Lilly now join at a bit later day (Jimmy 15-25, Lilly 25-40).
I am also part of the clan, BTOOIC, visit our homepage at http://members.lycos.co.uk/btooic/
Questions? Comments? I love feedback, and feedback can be sent to mr_pickles@canoemail.com

-now that this map is done, I'll get back to work on ME2.00, check the progress at the clan’s website, that’s where the pictures will be (download section).

I'm a little more than half-way through this scenario so far, but I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying playing it; the design is very well done.
I love all of the triggered events and the Monty Python references (beware of killer frogs!). All of the messages are interesting and funny reads, which surprisingly adds a lot of depth to the game and the story.
Guy de Loimbard and his Absurdly Guarded Fortress stopped me in my tracks quite a few times, but I've never had so much fun dying.
It's obvious a lot of work and care was put into this scenario, and I know it's been play-tested for nearly a month before its posting here at AoW2H, so a lot of balance issues have already been addressed for a smooth presentation here.
Highly recommended! Look for a full review when I win the scenario. |

Playability: 5
Playable from the very beginning, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Balance: 3
This is probably the weakest part of the map. It happened to turn out that the stacks and stacks (and stacks) of the Goblin Queens units would never attack me or go within the land of the halflings, because I had captured the city over the bridge up in the north and built a wizards tower there, reinforcing it. They would really just walk aorund doing nothing, when they could have beat me.
Creativity: 4
Top notch, but it could have been a tad bit bigger and mor populated in the middle of the map :)
Map Design: 4
HAHAHAAHAHHA, it was so cool!!! I loved every minute of it, exploring and trying to find every last funny comment. There could have always stood to be more in the middle though.. and theres no clear way to go skinny dippin with the nymphs and fairy dragons.
Story/Instructions: 5
The best. Simply, just, the. best.

Btw Angel Draco what a great great download section!
And what a fantastic rating/comment system!
This is exactly what AoW2 needs!
A lot better than Aow1Heavens's! It is so important and nice for mapmakers to receive comments/reviews.
I always liked the ratings/comments in Aow1Heaven for maps and it's also great to read if you want to try a map out.
This is just fantastic!

Good and great fun. Not too hard nor too easy, all events seem to work just fine. When I needed a challenge there was always one near (nice ingame quests!) and it never gets boring. I like the fact that it has no teleporters (functional ones) or Haste berrie trees (well, just one then, to make fun of..).
Balance: 4
I find this one difficult to comment on. A single player map's difficulty can always be modified adjusting the AI. I played the 'old' version and the Goblin AI problems (not building boats or whatever) can lead to AI mobbing and them not attacking you. The new version 'fixed' this, I heard.
Creativity: 5
WAUW!! The most funny map I ever played! This is the reason I'd recommend this map to everyone!! The humour and funny events make this map a real classic. If this map was a book I'd put it in a very special place, next to the TV! ;).
The thing I find the most appealing is the atmosphere. The jokes aren't just stand-alones.. They are incorporated with the whole map feel and that makes me think like I am truly playing a Pickles movie (I hope a series).
Map Design: 5
The map has a natural look and is very detailled. No loose forests or heaps of plain grassland. The events all work and that makes it a very decent and reliable map. I am glad he's the man to tackle a middle earth map!
Story/Instructions: 5
Clear.
Additional Comments:
Go play this map, especially if you are a regular visitor of AoW2Heaven!
Oh, a minor warning.. The disadvantage is a small carry-over effect. Whenever I am seeing Marines I am laughing cause I am thinking about Itch E. Burn, the same is happening with Belendor (Guy).. ;) |

I agree with the others: This is a truly great map! Funny, beautiful, challenging... Well, I must say that I had the same problem as Polaris with the goblin units, but is it even possible to affect AI with scenario editor? I think not (except for the AI blocks). I also checked the map with editor. It has really taken some time to create that map, there are so many events and details... Keep doing maps, Pickles! |

(This map is just fun. Two races - Halflings and Goblins - fight for the world. Good balance, fun and strategy)
Balance: 4
(There are two races, good balanced and a lot of independents including a silly french knight from Monthy Python and the Holy Grail. Balance is good. Not too easy and not too hard. It is challanging.)
Creativity: 5
(Very good! See Insert Creativity analysis here)
Map Design: 5
(I like this Map. It is not too big. I don't like XL maps, they are too big and get too slow and boring after a while. Therefore I like this small map which I played for several hours.)
Story/Instructions: 5
(A lot of jokes, funny comments and Monthy Python stories make this map to one of my favorites. Beware of the goblins, they could do nasty things with some parts of your body ...)
Additional Comments:
I played this map very long, so that I had 4 level 30 heroes. It never became boring. All map designers in this world, play this map and learn from it: It is not the size (XL) which makes a map good. Very often there is no story and content. Maps are good when they are funny, playable and well designed, which means tested well. Just as this one. |

Heya, very funny and entertaining map. I love all the events and quests. (too bad this was just a small map, I love XL)
Sadly the goblins were no challenge, but I think I've played one of the older versions (downloaded it as soon as I it was on this site).

The characters and events you encounter are very entertaining. There is even a funny reference to a Monty Python movie here! The idea of having a region of the map where monsters always have a probability of appearing was also very neat and made the game more enjoyable.

Maybe I was lucky, but when I recruited a hero, I got a certain wanted man. The clams were easy pickings when he was all by his lonesome by my castle.
The castle was still tough to take, even without him in it. |

Additional Comments: I'm not that big fan of small maps, but I thought I'd give this a try as it had been rated so highly. And fun it was, in it's own way, heh.
The map could have used more detail and better use of the levellation, but otherwise it was ok.
There were many clever and funny little events that made the map fun to play. So how about something bit more bigger next time, my dear? :)
