This scenario is a more evolved version of the previously posted "Middle Earth War (variation 1.0)" file. Please consult the extensive presentation which was associated with that previous post: it still applies to this new version. The additions and enhancements inserted in the 1.1 revision are:
--- The Old Man Willow tree was added near the entrance to the Hobbit shire
--- Initially, after the wizard animation has been set, a character has a message for each player
--- The map looked too static, so a lot of mist, currents, clouds have been added to animate it more
--- In particular, the vast sinister region extending from the Mirkwood forest to the evil land of Mordor has been beefed up to look and feel more wicked, with an eerie toxic glow
--- Under the Mordor volcano of Mount Doom, the lava pit where the One Ring must be destroyed has received more fiery animation and more security (against enemy flyers trying to get in for a fast win)
-- Sauron's starting "Witch-King" hero has been replaced by a hero called "The Nine Nazgûl", who symbolizes the nine ring-wraiths--the Witch-King of Angmar being the leader of the group (to represent that there is not only one Nazgûl)
--- Saruman's Isengard region has become darker and more sinister to reflect the wizard's shift towards the Dark Side and his ecological depredations
--- Some small details have been altered
If you have any suggestions, you can e-mail them to me: sorceresss@hotmail.com--it's sorceress with a fourth 's'. I might incorporate them in further revisions. I will answer any question on the scenario.

January 10. This new revision 1.1 supersedes the previous 1.0 version. The new file has a different extension, so it will not overwrite the previous 1.0 file, but now that 1.1 is out, there is no point in playing the old 1.0 version. The new edition is 99% the same, but some very interesting enhancements have been added: they are listed in the presentation of this 1.1 variation.
If you want a Gandalf/Halfling side instead of the variation's IceWitch/Frostling, try out the "Tolkien's Middle Earth (v 1.0)" scenario that was added this afternoon.
Yesterday evening, we were testing (again) the 1.1 variation as Sauron. The sorceror starts in Mordor (south-east), a dark wasteland full of green and redish glows caused by poison clouds and volcanic fires. Our ally, the Ice Witch of the north-east, eventually cast the Ice Age spell. Oddly enough, the Ice Age started in the eastern third of the map, in a massive way. Consequently, the dark wasteland of Mordor became a weird white landscape, blemished by green and redish glows. It shocked Sauron, but that's the eternal problem with allies, especially if they happen to be witches: their spells can be annoying. Of course, Sauron can react in two ways: by the spells "Disjunction" and "Darkland". Also, if he has a hero with the "trail of decay" power, he can have that hero run around in the snow to pollute it back to a wasteland state. Seeing Mordor as a vast snow-country was quite a shock!

I've only browsed the start of the game, but I just wanted to make a few suggestions. Add the three elven rings to Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel. Name the items appropriately (instead of Gandalf's sword, call it Glamdring). Touches like this really add a lot to the role playing aspect. |

The three rings were there, with their proper names and holders: see Elrond's and Galadriel's starting items.
In this variation, Gandalf only appears as a hero, but in what concerns his sword, you are right: over-eager lazyness urged me to name it "Gandalf's sword" instead of its proper name. But he does have the "Narya" ring of fire. Sorry about the sword: will change its name if another version is created. |
