This is my first map! I hope it is as fun to play as it was to make.
The story
It is one thousand years after the Time of Magik. In those days the God's walked the earth and waged war here on Arcada and not from high above. The climax of that time period came about with a tremendous battle between the four Gods and a newly emerging God (God of Death). Though the four Gods won the day, they couldn't destroy the God of Death and banished him to the depths of the earth. Or so the legends have it. It is also said that only a mortal can destroy the God of Death. Other stories say that he will one day resurface and lay waste to all of Arcada! To complicate matters, you have also heard rumors of ancient artifacts from that time that are said to give a mortal the power of the heavens.
With the coming storm of war, you have made up your mind to seek out these artifacts. Even if it is just a myth, you still must quest for them. If they are real then you must be the one to wield their power for if they fall into the wrong hands…you shudder at the thought…
I set up the map to where you will have to battle the AI as well as the other players. Don’t think you will be able to roll over the local Barons and King/Queen! I added a lot of little surprises and it is my hope that this map will be a real challenge to defeat.
P.S. Don’t go looking for the God of Death (if he exists…hehe) until you have some extremely high-level characters! You have been warned! Also, the map isn’t password protected but if you go poking around you will ruin the game.
Enjoy, have fun and give me some feedback!

02/03/2002 - fixed a few bugs and added a couple of things that I missed.
Playability: 5
Things to keep you busy from the begining. Lots of varied terrain with no dominance of any particular type. Galleys are a factor but not so much that the AI can't play.
Balance: 5
I played single player. It seemed that opposing wizards had a good opportunity to expand and play to their strengths before hitting the other wizards.
Creativity: 5
Terrain quite unique and lots of interesting special spots and creature combinations to defeat to get special magic items. No godlike special items to disrupt balance of game. Several special cities and caves that have almost unbeatable combinations of armies before you can conquer them.
Map Design: 5
Liked the map. Each wizard had terrain that affected them positively early in game. Good use of rivers and lakes which is a real treat. Good mixture of all terrain elements. Good use of roads to reduce the XL distance. No teleporters to keep track of which is good.
Story/Instructions: 4
Decent plot but no special quests. No instructions are really needed. Go conquer the map.
Additional Comments:
I have only played one game. It is a XL after all. I was quite entertained throughout. Maybe lighten some of the special armies in cities so that they can be used before the very end when they aren't needed.

An ok map with a lot of good playtime.......but I have to disagree with Thundarr who thinks this is one of the best maps ever(according to his review:allover score of 5).
1) The map, some beautiful areas, but most of the map one big golfgreen, with a total lack of detail, not even a flower, bush or schrub to spice it up. The underground has no details, not even elevations.
2) The balance is ok, but what's up with the ocean of 4th level units set on auto in the basement? Some Godlike custom items with all immunities and a whole lot of plusses besides from that, is not balanced and far from fun.
I started to play the map before I looked at it in the editor, but I didn't bother to play it as it looked unfinished, with all the empty grassland. The map has a great potential though, and could easily become very good with a little makeup on it. (Won't take the maker more than a couple of hours)
Additional Comments: probably the worst map appearance wise that I've ever seen.. There isn't one flower, rock or any other decorative item on the map. The author took a large paint brush and spread some mountains and trees with some plain water and that's it. The few resources sit unguarded out in the open and then it's off to war.

Balance: 5
I was suprised at the balance. The AI is a challenge til the very end.
Creativity: 4
It was a good idea but I think it was lacking in the end somewhat.
Map Design: 4
Very well designed map. reminds me of a HOMM4 map.
Story/Instructions: 5
Pretty straight forward, easy enough to understand what to do.
Additional Comments:
With a little tweaking this could be the best map I've played.
