Sock Glacier in the north-east empties in to a lake which empties in to Danny's Bayou. It's in these lands that the Dark Elves and Elves battle it out. With enough resources and cities to sustain a pitched battle, but not unequal as to give one player the advantage (I hope...). Both sides can access each other via the glacier or bayou. This map was made for the BTOOIC map-making contest, and I hope it's good enough to be a tournament map. If it works out, I may make some more. |

Playability: 5
A really beautifully designed map for 2 player PBEM.
(Insert Playability analysis here)
Balance: 5
The elves may perhaps be slightly easier to play, but the scenario well-balanced, without resorting to boring, perfect symmetry.

Creativity: 5
Numerous well-designed areas, allowing lots of tactical options.

A georgeous map.

Story/Instructions: 5
Nothing really to speak of here, but it's designed as a 2-player map, so not story is really required.

Even a bit of a story would have made a big difference! |

Playability: 5
Fast gameplay, classic battle. (elves vs dark elves)
Balance: 4
Nice symmetrical map, although I had the impression that the Elves have a slight advantage.
Creativity: 4
Map Design: 4
Good layout and design. Nothing exceptional, but good looking.
Story/Instructions: 3
No real story needed for 1on1, but customized wizards should have been included.
Additional Comments:
Nice map, for multiplayer and singleplayer alike. |

Playability: 4
Lots of different options and paths to victory.
Balance: 5
Absolutely perfect. The Dark Elves have a stronger army, the Light Elves have a faster army and a little stronger magic.
Creativity: 4
Well done. Good variety on encounters and terrain.
Map Design: 5
A perfect design for 1v1 matches. I'd give it a 6 if it was an option!
Story/Instructions: 2
Cute map name and RL explaination. A little fanatsy background on how the wiazards came to this situation would have been nice.

As the weekend ends I recommend this map for those times when you just want to play a simple "one on one" game with a friend. I am calling it the "rainy day" map or maybe the "hangover" map... you choose. Whatever your style and although this map is one of the older maps out there, it's a classic "good vs evil" (between the elves in this case) and has always been an old favorite of mine.
Playability: 4
Simply a good map to play when you just want to go at it against a buddy. The map plays well with a nicely thought out playing field. Players are far enough away from each other but close enough with just the right number of cities and encounters for a multiplayer map. I would have given a "5" here but the replayability is limited to only a choice between two wizards on an "open" style of playing field. Another words, "it's one half vs. the other half". Also there is limited randomness. Other than that this map plays perfect and with no bugs, yipee!... "Because ain't no bugs allowed!" says the cross-eyed toothless exterminator... meaning this map has no events.
Balance: 5
No arguement here... yep, even stevens! Like the equal number of fingers on each hand... you got this "many" on your side and I got the same "many" on my side. Of course on the other hand... you have different fingers. Huh?

After now having played some of the newer maps out there, I am rating this map's creativity as average. Understanding though that this map is one of those for just simple gameplay between two players, it is still very creative and fun to play. One of the best parts of this map is the terrain and how it ties in with the name "Danny's Sock" At least I think so... better wear your socks, the "glacier" is cold to walk on. :) Anyway this aspect of the map I put towards the score of map design.
Map Design: 5
Greattttt! Excellent placement of cities and encounters. Overall the terrain looked good and interesting enough. Although the map is apparently symetrical with it's placement of cities, caverns and etc., it is well disguised. Nice job!
Story/Instructions: 3
Although a multiplayer "one on one" map may not need a story, I still like to have fun knowing more about a background, a purpose or just some crazy signs to read. It just adds another element to the game and to the overall purpose of playing the game, to have fun. Anyway the map plays like it should regardless and so I gave this catergory an average score. Who knows, maybe there will be more with a follow-up map, "Danny's Sock finds a Shoe!" Hmmmmm...
Additional Comments:
Well what to say now... In a nut-shell, "Danny's Sock" plays as a simple but great "one on one" type map. If you have a little time on your hands then find another player and get back to a classic style of playing with this map! As for me it was nice to replay an old favorite. Now the call of Shadow Magic lures me and so I am off... till the next time, happy hunting! :)
