UPDATE June 26th 2016: This final version
contains not many but some significant changes to make it playable (and enjoyable...) also as single player map.
The secret of the Runeblades was once meant to be designed as a new campaign for the all new 1.5 Upatch but it was never realised as this.
Hence I decided in 2010 to make a single, huge Epic map out of it with the whole story put together into one map.
In the end it had to become a PBEM map to make most sense.
Playing it alone makes only sense if you play literally all wizards (except maybe Siorlynn and Rimbald - these two could theoretically be set to AI) so I highly recommend PBEM only (as long you find a group of at least 5 players these days :D )
Most of the story and setting etc is explained in the map itself. Therefore I keep things short here.
ItÃ�ï¿½Ã¯Â¿Â½Ã�ï¿½Ã�Â´s beside Descent to Undermountain the most intricated map I made so far with lotÃ�ï¿½Ã¯Â¿Â½Ã�ï¿½Ã�Â´s of events.
ItÃ�ï¿½Ã¯Â¿Â½Ã�ï¿½Ã�Â´s a classic good vs. evil map where 4 cooperating wizards fight against the prime evil (Saron Neragal - which definitely needs to be played by a (experienced) human) and two other evil wizards (Rimbald and Siorylnn which - as I already mentioned - SHOULD but need not necessarily be played by human).
I worked on this map from 2010 till Jan. 2013 until I quit playing AOWSM. IÃ�ï¿½Ã¯Â¿Â½Ã�ï¿½Ã�Â´m happy to see that finally Upatch 1.5 was released so that this map was not created for naught:)
PS. this version here works. Meanwhile I couldnÃ�ï¿½Ã¯Â¿Â½Ã�ï¿½Ã�Â´r resist and had to download the all new patch (so far I had only a 4 year old workbuild on which the map was created) and it turned out yesterday that the map wouldnÃ�ï¿½Ã¯Â¿Â½Ã�ï¿½Ã�Â´t run on the released patch.
But I managed to fix that problem very fast and now this map here works with the all new patch.)
Regarding the playability of the map (PBEM vs. single player or even hotseat):
Maybe I should have said it a little different:
Playing the map in a way it makes most sense (from story perspective) means playing it in pbem with at least 5 fractions as explained.
But this doesn´t mean, that you CAN NOT play it in single player mode at all...of course you can - but then you lose a big portion of the story elements which are desigend for each wizard seperately.
For example you could play the evil guy Saron Neragal or one of the good guys (e.g. King Behren)in single player mode and put all others to AI.
You will then lose the main portion of the Rune-blade thing but I think that´s not necessarily a huge problem – you can still win the map.
So, my comment "only playable in PBEM" was a little bit exaggerated... ;)

It *looks* absolutely gorgeous, but I can't comment much on balance until I try a PBEM out.

thanks! It´s amazing what now can be done with the new 1.5 content!
I have to admit that I re-discovered my passion for that pearl of a game in the last days while I was playing various test games parallel to the (mostly boring :D) Euro Championship matches... :D
And I think it´s now also fun to play in single player mode after I made the latest changes to boost up the (still silly :( )AI who´s still sending single units around instead of cleverly bundling them but at least it´s acting agressively as of a certain point of time - provided that you declare war on various fractions that is, of course ;)
But still it´s rather a pbem map given the fact that it´s packed full with powerful units and heroes that can totally break the balance in favor of a human player (no matter which fraction you choose) against only-AI foes since they won´t use these opportunites to boost themselves as much as a human player would.
I think a pbem game with at least 3 players would already work (even if it means breaking the logic of the rune-blade story background to some extent) one evil against 2 good ones but ideally would be 5-6 players, 2 evil vs 3-4 good ones.
This map shows full potential of UPatch 1.5 and in my opinion should go with the main packege.
As for bugs - from some point of the game spirit and other quests could not be completed.
The bugs presented by events on hex enter that covers quest stone with their radious and also with teleporter which teleport exit is put on quest stone location. They also presented crashes some times.
