This toolbar resides at the top of part of screen in the editor. It contains the brush tools and the important Save and Validate Map buttons.

Open an existing map file
Save game (Remember to save your map regularly!)
Validate Button (This runs a check on your map. It is basically used to weed out Wizards that have not been placed, invalid teleporter destination coordinates – these things wil result in a map validation failure, which means that your map is not ready for play. Always use this to check your map before releasing it for play.)
Brush sizes (one hex, seven hex, nineteen hex effect, respectively)
Toggle between surface and underground levels.
Raise and lower terrain. Use this to create hilly landscape effects. Simply click on one of this button and then click on a hex in the main map window to raise or lower it.
Erase (Watch what you erase because there is no ‘undo’ button)
Select mode
Overwrite mode (Having this turned on, will cause any tile or graphic to replace existing objects in the same hex.
Preview Map (Look around your map in full screen mode.)
