I have never heard of Baigent before. The description listed above is extremely small and uninteresting (it not hard to get someone here to help with english if you want to upload and tell a story!). Frankly, I was not expecting much. especially since the marketing skills seemed to be so low. Downloaded it anyway just because I like to comment on every (non-password protected v1.4 map on principle).
So, when I opened the editor I thought I had the wrong map. It looked like one of those huge epic classics. Closed it down.
Opened Earthquake again...
...and it was the same map!
So, I was very impressed. This is not a small amount of work. We are talking a two level XL map, FILLED to the rim with mountain ranges, forests, lakes, cities, etc... and it is all DETAILED!
It is the PERFECT map for people who just like a huge epic game. Perhaps even online. There are no surprises and the replay value is big (as there are so many choices of expansion. Certainly people who like to play a random - type map on steroids will love it.
It must have taken weeks to complete this. A lot of things are set custom (including strong defenders on income sites - and when not, they are random). Obviously the mapmaker knows what he/she is doing.
Is it a masterpiece in my books? Not yet, a lot can be improved.
The heroes have no descriptions. There are absolutely no events, and there are also not a lot of atmosphere enhancing effects (except for some signs). The mapmaking, I would say is 'good' to 'very good', but not expert (yet). You will see some really good terrain, and at times quite original, but it's not to the level of maps from Morgul or The_Groll. There are also no areas that really stick out and signify importance as is common in great maps.
The energy is tremendous. Each and every part of the map is varied. This person must have a very strong imagination and creativity. And it keeps on going!
Thanks so much! We definitely like to see more of your work coming! Please post on the forums (and don't be shy of the English - look at The_Groll now, he is German and we can't get him to shut up anymore... ;)).[Edited on 07/14/08 @ 06:19 PM]

Hi Baigent,
Just a quick question - why do you say "No" to PBEM game?
I have taken a look in the editor and while it looks very nice, I dont see the AI putting up that much of a challenge in SP mode. The human will dominate rapidly, have so many resources that it will just be a matter of taking the map in time. So it looks like an ideal PBEM map. If not then it should be.
For example of what the AI will not do - it will not use the recruitment sites near to each start city and thus human has an advantage that they really dont need.
Cheers

@swolte: Thanks, for the detailed criticism! It made fun for me to make the map and besides I put much worth on many details.
Some I forgot, which is correct. I did not want to publish the map yet at all, but I of friends pushed… became somewhat hasty I there. ; -)
@ibobs: I have little time, therefore I often always forget something, or errors creep. „The NO “with PBEM to click, was an error. Sorry. PBEM functions.

Really a nice map!
I fully agree to near all what Swolte said. Only one little correction - No two.
First: There are events but only three. ;-)
Second. I can be quiet - but not for long and the forum is realy funny. :-)
This map is worth a closer look for sure...
And a rework. If you put in more events the map will become more interesting and the replayability will raise too.
But even now it looks nice. The landscape is not outstanding but fine drawed. I like it a lot.
If you like come to the forum as Swolte said before. You should also check out this:

Maybe you like it.
We seek for mapmakers like you are.
No vote from me because I have not played it now and I will not be able to do it soon but it looks like a solid map alos for a nice PBEM or hotseat game. |

I enjoyed playing this map. As I don't speak German I decided not to give it a rating. |

Hello, Baigent.
I would like to know your suggestions about a possible PBEM game in your map, with 4 human players and 4 AI controlled wizards.
I have some questions I would like to ask you, if you have the time of course.
Please write me a note when possible: unnapu [at] gmail [dot] com.
Excellent map, thank you. |
