The_Sheikh made a wonderful map, but I found it unplayable (defenders weren't set, annoying storms, etc) and it had a lot of missed potential.
I've adapted and checked everything in the editor! The map hasn't been formally play tested, but its many cities and options for expansion allow for a game that should be decided by skill! It's also pretty straightforward in design.

Alpine Alliance III is the latest version where I added an entire underground level and tons of v1.4 content. Its not a masterpiece, as it only took me one day, but if you liked Rise of Kings, you will like this one too!

Depending on player styles, this map can take quite a while. It is also heavy in city limits. I would STRONGLY advice not to allow the migration trick on this map, as it has many independent/random cities.

Btw, it's also ideal for playtesting mod/patch changes because of a high density of different races/situations present!

Far and away the most annoying thing about this map, for me, is that all towns on this map are limited to being towns, including your capital. They can never become cities. This may be acceptable for a saddo that plays Upatch 1.4 (if anyone still does) but for cool dudes that play BNW 3 that means that you will never be able to create level 4 units, nor will you be able to make the special racial structures, or the units therein. As recruitment structures don't have AI blocks on them, I was also able to recruit lots of units where the AI had kindly cleared the defenders away for me.

Balance: 5
I wouldn't be able to recommend this as a multi-player map, unless capitals were allowed to become cities, but it did seem to be well balanced as far as I could tell.

Creativity: 4
Apart from an area around 90,59,0 the surface just appears to be a random map with a few razed outposts, and an occasional dab of Upatch 1.4, but the caverns were done to a much higher standard.

Map Design: 4
Lots of ways to move around the map, and a few areas to you to try out your tougher units (assuming that you can actually build any!)

Story/Instructions: 3
No real story.

Additional Comments:
Please don't expect this to be another Rise of Kings, which in my opinion is one of the best maps ever, but this map is still definitely worth playing.

There are some cities on the map, but they are definitely a minority.

albinscott Very nice map!
Been playing it blind with some good players and found out that Saints can be a major problem in this map. I took an Archon big city (which I don't know if is set for Archon or Random) and got the possibility to produce them. Since I don't know if this is the map's author idea, the issue came up only after I felt that this could be a problem.

In my opinion, a warning or recommendation should be displayed in the map description: "Do not use Saints for resurrecting other units except your own!", just like the Migration Trick.

Will produce a detailed analysis when the game ends, but so far it has been great! Congratulations to The_Sheikh and to Swolte.

'Resurrect' can become a major problem in every map that has Archons. Probably just make it houserule, as you are doing in your game.

Sure people will create such houserule... at times. After having experienced some other game where that ability played a large unbalancing role, I won't forget about this. Ever.
There are two problems, though:

1) Unexperienced players won't have a clue about this issue (it's not even mentioned in the Etiquette head post), so they will never bring up the houserule themselves. They can drive their production towards Saints only to hear at some point: "Nope, you cannot resurrect indies".

2) Some maps may be designed in order to make use of Saints as a reward for reaching some area, for example. Will these maps warn the players? Or will players discuss the issue only after someone has achieved the opportunity of using Saints? Or will players just keep on resurrecting stuff until someone makes notice of it? And how will players react when they hear the above mentioned "Nope, you cannot resurrect indies"?
A game can be ruined if the resurrecting doesn't stop at a given moment.

Actually, I will head to the Etiquette right away!
