First of all. This is my first map that I upload here. Don´t be too rough on it.
Map is playable under Unofficial patch 1.4

And story goes:

Northern Lands of Blernea were once under one frostling nation. When other races started to arrive the Frostlings became more aggressive. After the war between sixteen warriors the Capital of Frostlings had no King anymore. Panicked frostlings were slaughtered. Cities fell under fire and war. The Capital was sealed. No other than Frostlings should come there. Later, many kingdoms rose in the lands whom once belonged to Frosts. Now is your turn to conquer all. Or just die in pain. Who cares...

I am sitting here at work and before really starting to get going, I decided to just take a quick look at this map. It's an unknown author so I didn't expect too much...

Argh, I wish I didn't!

I am very impressed! In terms of mappainting, the map is extremely detailed and comes across as very natural. A real world, instead of a place where things seem randomly placed! It's not just the amount of detail that is impressive, the creativity that went into it is also surprising! There are areas of inspiration where the best mapmakers around here could learn from (I know I did! :o).

The strategic design also seems good. Structures are placed in a manner that keeps areas interesting in the map. Stunning areas are put in tactically smart, impactful places, so that crucial battles will likely take place there!

As for balance/playability, I have no clue. I love a map that uses city limits, and this one does it a lot. I can see that thought went into this aspect as well! Since the map is non-symmetrical and I do need to get SOME work done today, its hard to judge playability. I could find no obvious issues. (The sandwich design) seems fun. I am not too sure about the events (some spawns might be a bit over the top). Then again, the author seems to have put thought in this as well, and designated it a single player map-only which makes these issues a lot less important. CLEVER!
Is it a masterpiece a la Gates of Elocin, Athendore-II, This land, or Battle of Creation, for example? Not in my books! The heroes and wizards don't have a description and the story isn't particularly grand or immersive. It also misses something that I can't put my finger on yet... I am also still a bit sceptical about balance, but I might be proven wrong there.

However, there is lots of potential and I guess this is someone with some experience in mapdesign or strategic games? If this is his/her first map, I am sure there can be a masterpiece one day. Hopefully a MP version will be released with some modifications (capturing the CITY can be a WIN condition?).

Well I didn´t think the story part much yet.
Because of it my maps usually ends up being trash.
And this is the first map I upload here, I have made dozens of maps beside this. Well still big thanks to you. :)

Didn´t think that there would be that much stuff to say.

And those other maps I have made... Maybe they are coming.. Maybe not.

Playability: 4
Most of interest comes from the indepedents and what is found while exploring. For a large map, disabling teleporters slows the game too much in my opinion.

Balance: 4
Seems fine for a single player game. AIs probably could use some support if one player was the preferred human player.

Creativity: 3
Other the map design the rest is pretty normal.

Map Design: 4
An interesting map design. Only complaint I have is why was there a Shadow level with no apparent way to get there?

Story/Instructions: 3
Not much which is the average.

Overall a good map that was fun to play.

Tendril First I gotta say this map looks great, everywhere I look theres nice scenery, all looking very natural. I wont rate this map just yet though, I do have 1 or 2 concerns about its playability.
I played it as dark elves to begin with, this area seemed fine until my hero stack got butchered by a stack of 8 mammoth area guards. I also played as undead, but it took many turns before i could leave my cave due to the massive guards at its exit. So early on in a map, to have such large groups which must be killed to progress slows the game down alot. I also played dwarfs and had no problems, only issue with them is, if ai has control of them they seem to die on day one due to a stack that spawns near them.
Overall it seems like you've spent alot of time on this map, but I'm not sure if it's been playtested enough.
