greetings to All!
This scenario is my first product; it was dedicated to my girlfriend, who is an AOW-fan as well (she liked it).
I played with all AOW-products,
so I have serious expectations when I'm playing with a new map. I like detailed and well-balanced sceanrios, so these were my priorities during the edition.
In the world of Draconia you have to fight against a tough AI-opponent (Draconians), and the other races as well. Although it is a SM-map, I ignored the new races (like syrons), just a few units represent them. This map is ideal for players who like the Evil Races.
I paid attention to the small things which could make a scenario more spectacular and enjoyable. New items, new heroes with background-story, ewerything for a single purpose: to produce a new, valuable scenario to all fans. I hope You'll like it!
Greetings from Hungary:

Playability: 5
No issues with playability.
Balance: 5
Seems fair to me.
Creativity: 3
A good use of neutrals that adds strategy decisions about what cities to take and which to leave independent.
Map Design: 4
I like the map especially the central area and the strongly defended neutral cities.
Story/Instructions: 3
Not many, pretty much the norm.

Playability: 3
Base = 3, +1 Powerful AI garrisons, -1 Somewhat overabundant resources by midgame (due to the large number of cities - you could probably drop some of the furnaces, etc.), -1 Single level & no teleporters on a big map means a hard, long, slog through enemy domain after enough turns have passed to research overland spells. If you don't like having teleporters/tunnel entrances near key cities you can offset this somewhat with abundant healing sites. +1 Playtested sufficiently to avoid crashes and non-working events.
Balance: 2
Base = 3, +1 "Classic" Pinwheel configuration of wizards around cpu wizard hub, -1 Strong indies (in cities) plus limited heros is hard on the AI, whose heros fell like autumn leaves in the game I played. -1 The good wizards are somewhat up against it, being outnumbered plus facing two enemies with darkness domain, (I suggest giving Marinus 'rejuvenation' to counter this, since otherwise he has no counter and he's looking at the undead right away.)
Creativity: 3
Base = 3, -1 "Stock" Pinwheel deployment of Wizards with strong AI hub, +1 Powerful custom items, +1 Strong AI garrisons (exclusively!), -1 Stock wizards (and all that goes with 'em - descriptions, messages, etc.)
Map Design: 3
Base=3, +1 Varied terrain (snow, swamp, etc.), -1 Lack of physical barriers (mountain ranges, etc.) -1 Underground rather limited, +1 Strong AI Wizard in center.
Story/Instructions: 5
Base = 3, +1 Non-linear with no 'essential to victory' linked quests, +1 No excessive pop-ups or other distracting texts. You went to the trouble of making custom heros (+) but didn't give them descriptions (-).
Additional Comments:
I rate maps by starting with a '3' (average) and give pluses and minuses as design elements seem to warrant. I hope this seems fair. Some elements help you in some areas and hurt you in others - it's a gifted mapmaker that can avoid making trade-offs (I know I have to...)
For a first map this is VERY good, (it's even good for a second, third, etc. map...) I enjoyed it and will likely play it again, (I LOVE XL maps that aren't overloaded with SP stuff.) I especially liked the custom items you made, strong but not unbalancing. Keep up the good work. |

Hello, I've been playing AoW series since the first. I play single player games most of the time.
I liked this map in general, but there´s one thing I found boring in the long run. Too many cities. Maybe a little less cities would improve the strategy, as this map has only one level.
Anyway, it´s a beautiful map for massive armies. |
