Kevinking's old scenarios, while somewhat geometrically rigid were often criticised for crummy gameplay and aesthethics. I took one of his scenarios and used it as stock material, fitting in YET ANOTHER SHADOW GARDEN ....
The big what-if question: what if wizards had hobbies? (excluding Nekron and the All-Devourer for obvious reasons)
"Even wizards have their own hobbies, and Rowena the Starlit was no exception. Few suspected it at times (Rowena having appeared only at the close of the wars with the Demons) but if she had one weakness, it was gardening.
But whereas farmers only could farm several hundred acres (even with increased lifespans and modern techonolgy, but I am loath to explain how this is possible in a world of the sword and sorcery), Rowena was a goddess. Or rather, a near-immortal wizard. And wizards could terraform a whole empire with a single knowing glance. And this was what happened. Unfortunately, Rowena had no choice (white wizards weren't supposed to harm the populace) and she chose the badlands of Impero, a land settled basically by ruffians and fell creatures to begin her latest experiment. Naturally, for a few wizards who made this land their main recruitment pool, there was many a scandalised soul. Loma the Gypsy was unhappy at how the relocatees were treated, Karissa grew jealous with all the attention she was getting (the Fire-Haired Mistress being a natural hussy).
And Nekron? well, he .... despite him being only interested in death and conquest, the other wizards were only too happy (save Rowena) that he had no interest in gardening at all.
How evil exactly was Rowena's plan? and how evil were the indiginant wizards? your guess is as good as mine...."
This is a map exclusively meant to be played using mages. I intend to rework this component so that wizards obtain spells faster and can blast enemies better. Already, the shadow realm is quite rich in spell vaults, and I intend to up the mana gathering even further.
Nice mappainting although it is hard to judge playability from this map without actually playing!!
KevinKing always had great concepts although the execution of them often looked like they took a day. :(
This improved, however, over time!
:D
You are beginning to behave like him, though. Almost a map every 3 days...

Ah, but the quality is much different.
I try to make simple maps meant to create imaginative multiplayer arenas without much elaboration of sorts. Kevinking's symmetrical maps are a favourite with me because I can improve them and put other tweaks into them to make them look good. That's how I can achieve the 1-a-day rate because I got plenty of stock material.
