Several hundred years ago your forefathers were granted land to settle by the Archons after they were driven from their homes by an invasion. It was poor land, barren and sere, but the Tigrans and other neutral races had little choice but to accept and build a new home. Over time, though, it became clear that your people were settled there as a defense as any invader had to first pass through the Tigrans, Nomads, and Humans living there before being able to assault the gates leading to the lands of the Archons. Later a Death Lord rose in the wasteland, and your people were forced to keep his Undead armies in check, to keep them contained and away from the lands of the Archons. Your people have become no more than moat monsters, keeping danger at bay to protect the Archons who only see your people as a tool or a weapon.
You have called for a rebellion, you have called for the Tigrans, Nomads, and Humans to cast off the yoke of oppression and attack the Archons that have used them so shamefully. The moat monsters will attack the castle.
You have gathered co-conspirators, Human and Nomad Heroes who will help lead the fight against the Archons. They are ready to raise your banner. In the North, the gate to the Death Lord is held in your name, as is the watch tower. Another tower in the South has joined your side as well. Other towers garrisons are unsure of what to do or have already raised the Archon banner.
However, care must be taken. The Death Lord still plots to throw down the gate guards and ravage your land. Invaders still come by sea and from the West. You must hold them back while you fight your oppressor, you must keep your back safe if you are invade the lands of the Archons.
Strategic Notes:
You are faced with enemies on all sides of you. To your north are the forces of the Death Lord Sarindir, you can either conquer his lands and use his resources for your own war or just bottle him up and contain him. To the West and South there are two wooden Invaders Towers, if you capture and hold them you will reduce the number of attackers who come from those directions (do not raze them, you must garrison them to keep the invaders away). To East is your greatest challenge, the Archon lands.
Do not forget the opportunities offered by a sea voyage, but beware of sea monsters!
Item teleportation is OFF. |

This map was the first map of the competition I played and it set bar very high. I was wondering about maps that could possibly top this one, they should be REALLY good.
Playability: 5
The gameplay design is where the strength lies. The mapmaker has a great focus on playability and making sure that the player is in for a challenging time!
Balance: 5
Although this is a single player map, it plays very well and even multiplayer people will have fun with this map, just because it keeps you on your toes and makes you think!
Creativity: 5
Attacks come from all sides and it is extremely interesting and educative to study what the mapmaker pulls off here.
Map Design: 4
Visually, the map looks beautiful, but nothing astonishing or breathtaking.
Story/Instructions: 4
Good, yet nothing breathtaking in amount or quality!
Very, very well done!

I agree with rating already posted. Nice to see a good map that is not an XL monster. This map is the right level of detail without being too busy! |

This map is well designed from a playability point of view. Not too easy to win because lot of titans has to be defeated.
Interesting is the limited number of items (only one armor exists). That makes the skill selection more important when gaining a level. Usually I build an item with f.e. Double Strike or Healing and invest level points in defense and damage that is here not the best way and I like situations where I must vary my strategy to get most powerful heroes.[Edited on 05/02/06 @ 02:28 PM]

Playability: 5
Very challenging. I love it. It makes you think. Should I upgrade my city or build more units? Should I attack the undead first or the archons or the dwarves? How much defense do I need to hold them in check while I attack the other guy?
Balance: 5
Great balance. Hard but not impossible. I like the fact that items are hard to come by in this map. My heroes were strong but not overpowered. I lost several of them during battles.
Creativity: 5
Very creative and well thought out.
Map Design: 5
Great map design.
Story/Instructions: 4
Good story. I am not a moat monster! ARGGHHH!
Additional Comments:
Very fun map. Very challenging. |
