Many years ago your people, along with the humans, fled to the realm in which you now reside. A realm of sickness! Your people have struggled just to maintain their existence in this realm. Now, that existence is once again being threatened. Threatened by the same darkness that once overwhelmed them. A darkness controlled by one with no name. To make matters worse, the humans have joined the darkness and declared war on you. You've been backed into a corner with nowhere to turn. You know what now has to be done. The hour of Retribution is at hand.

Special Lose Condition: Haven, your capital city, has become a beacon of hope for your people. Should you lose your capital, your people will lose hope and all will be lost.

Build Outpost has been disabled along with various features in many of the cities.
Difficulty is mostly based on your play style and the settings for the AI. I intentionally set Tsinosra's difficulty to Lord and the Nameless One's to King, so there is room to make adjustments if you find the map too easy or difficult.
Nogard Tneicna's AI setting will have no affect on the difficulty of the game as you won't be competing against or allied with him.

This was my submission for the 1.4 Mapmaking Competiton. I haven't made any changes to it since then, as I have decided to begin work on another map instead. You can read what the judges had to say about it in the AoW2/SM Competitions, Tournaments & Wizard's Ladder forum. I am new to map making so all comments are very welcome!

Beautiful. For a first try, you've really outdone yourself, Sin, and I'm looking forward to whatever you bring us in the future.

A note to anyone reading: This review may contain some spoilers.
Playability: 5
Certainly plays well.

Balance: 5
Damned if I know anything about balance... at first, it starts out deceptively easy, but you'd have to work to take down the big bads.
Independents can be annoying.

Creativity: 4
Nobody ever uses the shadow world. Ever. And Sin has gone and made a map that not only uses the shadow world, but makes it the central focus--and works! I don't think I need to say anymore. :D

Map Design: 5
First of all, I absolutely LOVE the forests around Nevah in the editor, but by the time you get to the Nameless One's world in-game, it'll all be wasteland. This is in no way bad; I just wanted to say I thought it, in particular, was very well-made.
Also, Lover's Leap is probably the best waterfall I've ever seen.
Also love the Haven/Nevah dichotomy. I've often wanted to make a map where the shadow/surface worlds were wholly 'mirrors' of eachother, one being good, and one being evil. That'd take a lot of work, though, and I've never gotten very far with that idea...

Story/Instructions: 3
The only category you really need to work on, IMO. I found the story a bit lacking, and some of the instructions were fairly vague. The beginning isn't very clear, and there's a quest-'sabotage?'-that's very vague, and I haven't figured out how to complete it.
Also, y'know, a few spelling mistakes in a couple signs. Nothing major, though.
Two more things: Wizard and hero descriptions would be nice, and overall I liked the use of signs quite a bit. Some of them were pretty funny. :)
Map Design4.0
Playability: 5
The gameplay holds lots of surprises, is tough and it will definately be a mapplaying-experience you will never forget!

Balance: 4
I could reach lvl4's very quickly and this makes a lot of other units less valuable pretty quickly when you play to win.

Creativity: 5
This is one of the most original maps in the competition. The first time I actually enjoyed playing in the shadowworld... the idea is brilliant and you will see it when you do!

Map Design: 4
The landscape looks good but becomes a bit predictable and monotone. Very little really 'sticks out'.

Story/Instructions: 3
The story concept is ok, but it seems too simple in the current form and should be elaborated on better. A lot of characters aren't introduced and it really needs some polishing in this area!

Although this map didn't win the mapmaking competition, I think we all have won another excellent map and mapmaker! Given the fact that this is his first map, I'd definately keep an eye on this one for the future: Sin911
