This is meant as a patch for Age of Wonders-Shadow Magic. The aim is wide acceptance by the AoW-community. These changes are intended to become your default.

Check the FAQ on the main discussion forums for more information. Here is a idea of what it does:
Especially for the multiplayer community (online and pbem), small balance changes can have significant effects and can keep the interest in the game healthy and alive on a competitive level.
Balance changes are modest and strongly in line with the standard version. Consequences for all types of play are taken into account (Online, pbem and against the AI) and are aimed at promoting unit diversity and the use of creative strategies.
* Changes to units.
Balance changes to fix under- and overpowered units/races. Unit abilities may also be adapted, and expanded (entangle strike, gas breath, extra strike, healing-2, leadership IV).
* Changes to spells.
Removed spells that did not work and tweaked over- and underpowered spells.
* Changes to heroes.
Implemented small changes to upgrades and make the classes play more distinctive (like giving warriors more hp, most existing mods have already addressed this). Increased their role on the battlefield.
* Changes to quest rewards, (recruitment/ city/ income) structures and their defenders.
Changed the effects of structures that did not work (archon special building) and tweaked any over- and underpowered city buildings or rewards (made the item-forge more competitive, for example). Rebalanced shrines and rewards!
* Racial Priests/Monks.
This meant the replacement of some of the current monks and priest by graphics and abilities that suit the race better.
These are the units created by the monastery. For example, this means that a dwarven priest will look like a dwarf and have mountaineering.
* 4 new wonderful Maps.
These are maps that will come with the patch. They will show some of the new editor features that will otherwise not be available when playing the game. They are made by some of the best mapmakers of the community.
Especially mapmakers and single-players are treated the most with these additions. Note that none of the existing possibilities are altered or changed. These changes can be considered as bonuses and have no effect on playing existing maps. Mapmakers can add them at will, the advantage is that a lot of work by fans and hidden opportunities of mapmakers will now be directly supported and easily accessible by everyone!!
* Adds new units.
Over a 120 new units, either recolored or remade! Only the very best made it in and were judged by a Jury!
Criteria would be that they must have a professional and authentic feel!
* Adds hero portraits, item pictures and additional event images that will now all be supported by the game.
* New looking (TC)-structures and terraintiles.
This will mean the addition of new terraintiles and recruitment structures, like iglo's or inns. We will also have new Healing Houses, dungeons, income structures and ruins to explore! Not to forget the tons of new terrainfeatures!
This means the:
- refinement and elaboration of existing descriptions for abilities/spells and structures.
- The making of unit descriptions for the extra units.
- The translations into different 3 different languages (German, Polish and French).
**********THE CORE TEAMS**********
* Balance Team
This team was responsible for the balance changes made to the units, cities and spells. The composition is similar to the one involved in the balancing for the original game.

This 'team' created the extra units and structures for the game!

This team wrote the descriptions and translations for units that are new to the game (priests, editor units). Unit building-descriptions are also be adapted!

There are a lot more people that have contributed to this immense project that lasted 11 months from start to finish!

I was wondering about the new added units and content. Do they only show up in like newly made maps or is there a way to enable them in the random map generator? Also how can u buy the new units? They were walking around in the maps that come with the game but I couldnt build them?

New heroes can be made available in new maps.
Itsatrap, I do hope you take a closer look. The majority of the changes are actually designed to make lower level units stronger than more powerful ones, so your comments (or memory) should be updated!
Also, there were no problems with the pbem community in terms of balance (at least not that I know), because most balance changes were quite subtle and small (-10 gold, or +4 MV, +1 ATK).
Warlord was deemed overrated by because it was very slow, and this made them quite unpopular in competitive games. With the Knight, I agree it now needs a different approach to counter. Don't forget it lost speed, and willpower... so there are ways to counter them. Also don't forget that the humans lost their unlimited shot Air Galley.
Nat, I think I just got your email! Most of the new upatch content doesn't show up in the RMG (except for racial priests, new abilities, etc...). We tried to be modest with balance changes to the game, so we hardly touched the gameplay in RMG (only some tweaks).
You'll have to download some maps to enjoy the new content. You can buy the new units from recruitment centers in new maps, or you can try an capture them (seduce, trap, etc...)
V15 will be less modest, so in addition to tweaks, we'll also add some more units that will also appear in the RMG.
I can't believe I'm still playing AoW after nearly 9 years since first encountering AoW1! So thanks to all those mapmakers out there and primarily the patch team for extending it's life so much.

However, such is the complexity of the game, new things still crop up for me. Perhaps I should pay constant attention to the forums but.... life.... you know!
Anyway, onto the reason for posting. The spy! Is it possible to get him to use his sabotage on gates? When trying to do so, his wallclimbing seems to be in conflict and he just squats in the wall!
(Also noticed this on heroes with both abilities.)
Haven't seen enough to give it a rate. But some changes I've seen so far puzzle me. Why does Frost Witch have swimming? She freezes the water, so that skill is kind of useless. And why Holy Champion enchantment gives bonus against good units, instead of evil? And I see artefacts are a bit over tweaked. Some changes are ok. I like the new monks.

I'd assume the Frost Witch can swim so you don't have to click each tile to move her onto water, so the path generated by the game will walk her across, and so the AI will use her.

I have the english version of the game, and when I patch it, I select english, but then some parts are german. This is really annoying, because now english and german is mixed.

I also could reinstal everything, and select german, so it runes with a german language only, but I want it in english, Anyone can help me out please? What shall I do, so the game is english only, not german.

I haven't played your versions, yet, but, given what I've seen, so far, it looks like I'd be missing out if I didn't. Please contact me (PM) if you're interested in a crossover project ivolving Warlords Battlcry III, Baldur's Gate Series, TA: Kingdoms, and the Aow Series. We already have Infinite Interactive's source code for WBC3. Not an April Fools Joke, either, lol.

If anyone here is interested in helping us out, I've done all the needed legwork to obtain source code permissions before, and would be happy to try my hand out for any others out there. I'm a die hard fan of those 'hand drawn' art series of games, and would love to connect people who would be interested in making a massive LONG-Term and Sustainable project geared at creating OS tools which can dig into non-OS games.

please someone is any way to save a multilayer game because i never finish the whole game...does someone make a patch or worked at something that can help me....thanks
