Matron Malice has enslaved all the races of the Underground, constructing an empire never seen before among dark elves. All other major families have been forced to join her in alliance. But now she wants to prove to Lolth her faith and her power: she is preparing an invasion of the surface world, in order to erase disgusting elves and halflings and to use humans as slaves. The menace has been only discovered lately by surface races, but instead of cooperating with the defenders of nature, King Erendal has decided to destroy them while weakened by the dark hordes' assault, and become the new Emperor. Nevertheless, a new ally appears, thirsting for revenge for his brother's kill: and so, the defense of this beatifull and wild land is left to Queen Amlauril, Siira Elrinwood and King Durin Faen, but can their forces oppose the rising darkness?
Old update:
Fixed some problems, modified some heroes and items.
Old update:
-Added a new quest involving the Guardian (look for it at the new "Wandering Treant's Inn".
-Eliminated external incomes for Matron Malice, and given more initial troops to Good players (The map will be a little easier now, I hope)
Old update:
fixed an unexpected bug involving the endless bag of gems
Old update:
-I've maked all quests (expect Durin Faen's ones) non-quests, in the sense they will not be registered as quests: instead you will recieve messages explaining what to do (you will have to remember them). In this way, I've been able to handle mutual exclusive quests MORE easily, and I've eliminated a LOT of problems I've found playing in coop.
-Added Shadow world: I've done it as Demiplane of Shadow of D&D, you will find no Shadow demon's towns, only nodes, missions, magical items.
New update (2 January):
-Resolved some minor issues
-King Erendal is now stronger (he will oppose Malice for a longer time) |

Playability: 5
This scenario is one of the toughest I´ve ever played. No, it´s THE toughest!!!
Balance: 5
Matron Malice is the hammer!!!
Creativity: 5
The scenario contents a lot of very creative "goodies". It is good to see, that there are still guys in Europe, who know what good fantasy is!!
Map Design: 5
The Design of the Map is extraordinary. Especially the underground level is one of the best I´ve ever seen. The heroes are wonderful.
Story/Instructions: 5
The Story is quite simple, but that doesn´t matter. After 50 or 60 turns I wanted nothing more than kill this ****ing darkelven Queen and end her foul reign!!!
Additional Comments:
Dear lorenzo michele,
thanks, thanks, thanks for creating this map!. Thank you! I never enjoyed the game so much before. This map is the ultimate challenge. Don´t make it easier, it´s perfect. By playing your map I got so much inspiration for my own map, because I saw how powerful the computer opponent must be to have "the helms deep feeling". Congratulations for this map and greetings to Italy.

Hi there!
First of all, I must say that this is a very nice scenario, indeed! I like the unforseeable special events whilst travelling such as devastating explosions, spawning of armies and so on...
The design is also very nice and when I read the reviews, saying, that this scenario forces you to the very limits, I thought that this could become a real challenging hotseat game playing together with a friend of mine.
But unfortunately, it didn´t...
Du be precise: He had a hard job playing the dwarves and almost got crushed by all the above mentioned special events and hard independents.
But for me, playing the elves, it presented itself to become one of the easiest maps I´ve ever played...
After but a few turns (less than ten I think) I had easily conquered some outposts and towns, many mines and nodes.
But worst of all (The death-strike so to say ;-) was: I didn´t have to search for this Alaster´s Orb - It fell directly into my hands...
Delivered directly from one of malices` strong heroes. Without any further accompanying troop but instead at least!! 20-30 mighty artifacts, one of them the Orb...
I smashed him with not even a full stack consisting of my humble hero and but a few iron maidens and two three druids.
After killing him, I became god ;-)
We played some more turns, I easily smashed all of Malices´troops and then we finished because of unbalanced gameplay between dwarves and elves...
I wonder, where this hero could have found all those artifacts in such a short time?? This seems to be impossible.
Maybe you should check this out and furthermore, whether you had originally equipped him with support troops or not.
But from design-point-of-view a very nice scenario which I´d loved to play furtheron had it not been for that wandering, weary-of-life enemy hero... |

Hi morgul666!
The hero you mentioned should be Malice's undead Guardian, her most powerful hero, that, when killed, resurrects in Malice's city (there is a way to prevent it, though): this is why he has a lot of items (he hasn't them at the beginning). I'm sorry if he was alone but this is due to AI, that lets high-level heroes go alone. The fact that he has the Orb of darkness isn't so good because it means:
1) you have failed spirit's of nature initial quest (you have to pick up the orb before Malice and Erendal);
2) Malice (or Erendal), picking up the orb, has risen a powerful undead army led by the artifact's will (a powerful undead hero).
As for dwarves, they are less powerful than the others because they can't be attacked by Malice or Erendal: in the SE corner, they are divided by Malice by Abyss gate (and Malice will be able to conquer it only after gathering a large army), and in the NW corner they are isolated until you decide to dig, so you have all the time to prepare yourself.
Elves and halflings instead are exposed to Malice's forces. I want elves (and halflings) to conquer easily nearby towns because:
1) they know about the rising menace and so they should be united;
2) they recognize the wizard as their leader;
3) elves (and halflings) are directly exposed to Malice's attacks.
You have been "lucky" to meet the Guardian, but if you begin the map again probably it won't happen, and at turn 20-30, hordes will begin to crush you (and later Malice's magical domains). |

much thanks to the author of this scenario. This one by far is the hardest for me. to compare, i managed to get the last stand scenario to turn 102 :-) but never found the way to prolong, but ok, back to dark hordes,i have a question. i played it as dwarfs and elves, and got the orb but never found the place where i was supposed to drop it into? was it the abyss gate? can you give me a hint please? :)
fantastic work ! thanks so much ! all 5's of course ! :-)
btw, will there be a continuation of lol's scenarious? i really enjoyed playing through them !! :-) |
