PLEASE NOTE THIS MOD REQUIRES THAT UPATCH 1.4 IS INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER!
It has been one year and one day since the brave new world v1.0 was made available. It was definitely time for an update! And after approximately 10-11 months of working on this, I now feel it is ready for release. There has been a ton of content added which I hope BNW players will enjoy. A fixed version of BNW 1.0 is also included in this package which is essentially the v1.1 version which had been making its way thru cyberspace. The only changes to this version are necessary ones in the unit bodies section of the editor so some fixed ILBs are set up properly. I felt it important that this should be included as well.
For players unfamiliar with the original, I should explain that this is a mod which places a great emphasis on heroes. Developing your heroes is an extremely important aspect of game-play and if you do so you will find they are capable of great deeds. This time around, as well as having distinctive portraits, each hero also has a unique body graphic and gone is the generic rider-type for each race. Expect to battle with great looking heroes who smoothly jog around the battlefield with very fluid and realistic animations.
This mod also is very much a tactical combat mod. The battles you have to fight are much more difficult than in the normal game and you will have to defeat powerful creatures as you struggle to expand your empire.
As players of the original might expect, there are many new and exciting creatures which have been added. Some are beautiful while some are bizarre, and still others are downright scary!
You can also expect to find many new artifacts, new map structures, changes to spells and abilities (plus a few new ones) and much, much more!
Finally I will just say that the mod comes with an easy install (same as the original) and this time around we have included some good documentation for you with illustrated tables and lots of information.
So prepare thyself brave one, for the new world beckons!

With this mod the game makes much more fun than before, when I already thought this was a very good game. Now it´s is really great! Thank you Kirky for making this mod.
Although there are a few things I do not like that much:
- Some sizes of the Unit-graphics seem to be to big. (e.g. the Duelist)
- I personally don´t like the "town size building restrictions". The time and costs to build the differnt constructions are restriction enough. On the other hand it takes away the ability to decide the order of construction and the towns are more equal now. That´s a pity.
- The heroes become to strong to fast, which makes playing vs CPU less challenging. Some abilities should not be available, e.g. "Resurrect", "stone skin" (should stay a spell only),...
Well, that´s just my personal opinion, no offense meant.
One thing, Kirky
I read a few posts above, that you sent maps for your mod via email. Could you please upload your maps in the scenarios-download-section? It aould be much easier than sending every fan an email ;)
Now I have to go and play :)
Farewell,
Alarion

Additional Comments: Dear God what a Behemoth of a Mod. I waited for 11 hours for this download to finish (poor download speed) and was wanting it to impress me or I would hit someone. I was not disappointed, a helluva lot of work has gone into this, and it shows. This Mod makes me wish that this was what AOW:SM originally looked like. Possibly the best Mod ever made for any game.
Hey...maybe Counterstrike should be worried?
Great Work Kirky, just brilliant *applauds*
P.S One question: How do I use your hero models for my heroes? All I can get are bland horses...:(

2.0 was unplayable, 2.35 which i tested fixed many things like racial troops were possible to build in town size. There are still few thing like artifact are too powerfull, getting 3 def, phys prot, magic imm, doublestrike, lifesteal etc in same item makes heroes unbeatable too soon. |

Additional Comments:
There’s a lot I could write about BNW, but let me just summarize by saying that if you haven’t tried it out you definitely need to! It adds so much more variety to just about every aspect of the game: new wizards, new items, new artwork, new buildings, and that doesn’t even include all of the incredible new units! Kirky Picardo is an absolute grandmaster of the ILB and he has certainly proved it here. What’s more the mod makes some very interesting changes to basic game play and requires you to come up with new strategies which is definitely refreshing for anyone who wants to try something different. The amount of work it must have taken to do this on top of everything else is just mind boggling, so thank you Kirky for your mod and for making it available for everyone else to enjoy! It’s simply a phenomenal piece of work.

First of all, this is a much postponed review but I finally got to it :)
This Mod adds superb new Graphics to the game, new units for all races, new items, new heroes, etc! Heroes and hero-development are important in BNW, and they not the standard mounted heroes, but have a rich variety of stances, clothes and attitudes!
I think kirk's words are better to describe his own Mod, but what I would like to point out here is that this Mod doesn't strafe too much from the game; and I think that was done in a good way here. By that I mean all original races, spells etc. are still here, but at the same time they have new units/details that have the same 'flavor' of the originals of the game. And all that with great new graphics here and there!
This Mod was also made in a VERY professional way: the new graphics border on perfection, there are no missing animations or strange things happening, there is a beautiful documentation to it, and the changes were obviously well thought and organized.
I just got BNW 2.5 and the Mod keeps being improved and taken care of by its maker. this is excellent!
To sum it up, this Mod is just a must have for anyone that owns AoW: SM!!!!!
Additional Comments:
The dedication and effort put into this masterpiece can VERY easily be underrated and barely be understandable. It borders on insanity, a good kind of labor of love insanity that is :) Converting graphics from other games is a time consuming and sometimes frustrating job, and Kirk's professional work is nothing short of pure inspiration for me.
I also have been e-mailing Kirk for a long time because Mods such as this one inspired me to Mod myself, and his eagerness to help and friendliness are just outstanding. I really thank Kirk Picardo for making this Mod that extended immensely the lifespan of AoW SM!!![Edited on 01/03/07 @ 01:52 PM]

Additional Comments: This mod is absolutely brilliant, I love playing it and I love making maps for it.
There are so many units in this mod that you wouldn't even necessarily even know were there, unless you were playing custom maps. Inevitably when a mod has this many weird and wonderful creatures they can't all be built in cities, some you might meet occasionally as defenders of resources, but many you can only find in custom maps.
There are far too many units that I adore to list them all, all with brilliant animations and sounds, but some include: Murlocs (my favourite!), Water Weird, Battle Unicorn, Koda Bear, Elementalist, Mana Fiend.
Keep up the great work Kirky, and thanks for another brilliant work of art! |

Hi Kirky,
I am sorry that I didn't write for a long time.
I am playing the 2.5 version that you provided, thank you it's great.
I Loved the new heroes especially hero(centaur type) named kira I think. also I loved a huge giant given me by magic quest (sea…)
Something that I didn't loved or maybe I need to get use to it, is the buildings graphic's that similar to heroes of might and magic.
Thank you again for the hard and beautiful work,
Waiting for your next patch
Thank a lot
