Brave New World v2.0

Author File Description
Kirky Picardo PLEASE NOTE THIS MOD REQUIRES THAT UPATCH 1.4 IS INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER!

It has been one year and one day since the brave new world v1.0 was made available. It was definitely time for an update! And after approximately 10-11 months of working on this, I now feel it is ready for release. There has been a ton of content added which I hope BNW players will enjoy. A fixed version of BNW 1.0 is also included in this package which is essentially the v1.1 version which had been making its way thru cyberspace. The only changes to this version are necessary ones in the unit bodies section of the editor so some fixed ILBs are set up properly. I felt it important that this should be included as well.

For players unfamiliar with the original, I should explain that this is a mod which places a great emphasis on heroes. Developing your heroes is an extremely important aspect of game-play and if you do so you will find they are capable of great deeds. This time around, as well as having distinctive portraits, each hero also has a unique body graphic and gone is the generic rider-type for each race. Expect to battle with great looking heroes who smoothly jog around the battlefield with very fluid and realistic animations.

This mod also is very much a tactical combat mod. The battles you have to fight are much more difficult than in the normal game and you will have to defeat powerful creatures as you struggle to expand your empire.

As players of the original might expect, there are many new and exciting creatures which have been added. Some are beautiful while some are bizarre, and still others are downright scary!

You can also expect to find many new artifacts, new map structures, changes to spells and abilities (plus a few new ones) and much, much more!

Finally I will just say that the mod comes with an easy install (same as the original) and this time around we have included some good documentation for you with illustrated tables and lots of information.

So prepare thyself brave one, for the new world beckons!

Additional Comments: Dear God what a Behemoth of a Mod. I waited for 11 hours for this download to finish (poor download speed) and was wanting it to impress me or I would hit someone. I was not disappointed, a helluva lot of work has gone into this, and it shows. This Mod makes me wish that this was what AOW:SM originally looked like. Possibly the best Mod ever made for any game.

Hey...maybe Counterstrike should be worried?
Great Work Kirky, just brilliant *applauds*

P.S One question: How do I use your hero models for my heroes? All I can get are bland horses...:(

Additional Comments:

2.0 was unplayable, 2.35 which i tested fixed many things like racial troops were possible to build in town size. There are still few thing like artifact are too powerfull, getting 3 def, phys prot, magic imm, doublestrike, lifesteal etc in same item makes heroes unbeatable too soon.

Hi saiyan_yobbo,

Well thank you very much for such a nice review. I remember dial up days all too well and am glad you feel it was worth the download time and don't want to hit anyone. :)

I am not sure I completely understand your question about hero models. For example, if you were making custom heroes for a map made for BNW then these models are the ones that would be used, but if you are making a map for the normal 1.4 version of shadow magic then heroes will of course use the generic rider-types from the normal game.

Can you elaborate a bit more maybe?

Thanks a lot!

Kirky

saiyan_yobbo Yeah I realised that after deleting the heroes of the map and placed them again, then I got different models than the generic rider type. Cheers for the advice anyways!

I shall look to many days of map making now, thanks to this Mod, certainly a breath of fresh air :)

Hi,

I just wanted to let people know that thanks to Firegolem there is a small patch available now for this mod which fixes any small mistakes that were discovered in 2.0 and makes various adjustment to things like building requirements etc.

You can get it here:

ftp://lumpiserver.game-server.cc/

Thank you, Firegolem!

:)

Additional Comments:

Hello Kirky Picardo,
Thank you for this amazing mod, I also installed the 2.4 patch and I loved the new creatures.

Hope to see the new version(3.0) soon.

Thanks again,

Banality Hi Kirky,

Could you send the latest patch to my email: steve_pcplanet@yahoo.co.uk :)

I've been playing this mod extensively with a couple of friends for the last few months and I ran across a couple of strange odities. One of the most notable was that my orc abomination unit suddenly changes his alignment to good on reaching gold medal.

This has also happened for a few other units but I can't remember which at the moment, apart from a wizard or two. I don't mind with the wizards though...it actually makes the game interesting when you have a neutral wizard and you're playing orcs for instance, it makes you think a bit more :)

Anyway, I hope the patch addresses these.

Thx

Hi wusong,

Thank you very much for your review. I am happy to hear you downloaded the 2.4 update and I hope everyone who is interested in this mod is also aware that this is available. I can't say if or when a BNW 3.0 will be made, but it probably won't be too long before 2.4 is updated to a higher version. :)

Thanks again.

Hi Banality,

Very nice to hear from you again and thanks a lot for your interest. I know about the abomination becoming a "good" unit when he gets the changeling skill at gold medal. You see, when a unit becomes a changeling it does so in every sense, including its alignment. Unfortunately this is just the way the skill works in the game. Long ago when I first gave this ability to the abomination I remember I tried a number of things, including changing the alignment of the changeling itself, but unfortunately this had no effect. So it seems we can't have "evil" changelings and perhaps it may be best to just give the abomination a different ability at gold medal.

I am not aware of wizards or other units changing their alignment and would need a bit more info on that. I would mention though that a number of factors determine your alignment and this can change over the course of a game. In a recent game with my friend we had started with outposts and he was playing humans. He was surprised when the first hero to pop up to be hired was a shadow demon warrior. The reason for this is that he was a death specialist, and all death nodes were more of a factor in his alignment than a human outpost, so the game basically perceived him as being evil. :)

Now, what you have experienced may be something completely different and unrelated to this, but I thought this may be worth mentioning.

I will send you the 2.4 update incase you are having some problems downloading it for whatever reason. I will also send a small update to that (2.4B) which I am playin at the moment which makes a few additional tweaks such as heroes starting with -1 att and def over what they currently have. Over the course of a game this is not very significant but early on it can be.

Thanks again. :)

Kirky

Hi Voose,

Unfortunately it seems Firegolem's server is not available at the moment. I don't know if this is a temporary thing or not. The 2.4 patch is 7.77 mb and if you would like to have it I just need your e-mail address and I'll be happy to send it to you.

Thanks.

Kirky
