Brave New World v2.0

Author File Description
Kirky Picardo PLEASE NOTE THIS MOD REQUIRES THAT UPATCH 1.4 IS INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER!

It has been one year and one day since the brave new world v1.0 was made available. It was definitely time for an update! And after approximately 10-11 months of working on this, I now feel it is ready for release. There has been a ton of content added which I hope BNW players will enjoy. A fixed version of BNW 1.0 is also included in this package which is essentially the v1.1 version which had been making its way thru cyberspace. The only changes to this version are necessary ones in the unit bodies section of the editor so some fixed ILBs are set up properly. I felt it important that this should be included as well.

For players unfamiliar with the original, I should explain that this is a mod which places a great emphasis on heroes. Developing your heroes is an extremely important aspect of game-play and if you do so you will find they are capable of great deeds. This time around, as well as having distinctive portraits, each hero also has a unique body graphic and gone is the generic rider-type for each race. Expect to battle with great looking heroes who smoothly jog around the battlefield with very fluid and realistic animations.

This mod also is very much a tactical combat mod. The battles you have to fight are much more difficult than in the normal game and you will have to defeat powerful creatures as you struggle to expand your empire.

As players of the original might expect, there are many new and exciting creatures which have been added. Some are beautiful while some are bizarre, and still others are downright scary!

You can also expect to find many new artifacts, new map structures, changes to spells and abilities (plus a few new ones) and much, much more!

Finally I will just say that the mod comes with an easy install (same as the original) and this time around we have included some good documentation for you with illustrated tables and lots of information.

So prepare thyself brave one, for the new world beckons!

Hi Lord Kaba,

I just wanted to thank you for your review. I only play my mod with a small group of friends, so it's very nice to hear that there are others out there who genuinely enjoy and appreciate the work involved in creating BNW.

Thanks a lot!

Additional Comments:
Well It's my second rating, I don't know If I can do this, but my first was for the old version. I have been playing a lot this months and I recommend sincerly to play AOWSM with this mod. Maybe I'm not a champion of strategy in AOWSM or a skilled modder I'm a simply occasional player of this wonderfull sage of games that thanks to this mod plays again to AOWSM. Try it.

Thanks a lot Kirky!

Hello Pignogonido!

First of all, I guess you can't really review the newer version of BNW if you have already reviewed the old version. I say this because your review did not add to the total number of reviews but instead added to the number of comments - even though it actually shows up in the New Reviews section, heh.

However, that's not very important. What is important to me is that even though you had already given the old version of the mod a great review you still wanted to give the new version one as well and even thank me for making it! For this I feel really honored and am very grateful. You made my day/week/month lol!

Thank you, Pignogonido!

P.S.

I have an update to BNW that I will send to you soon. It makes quite a few adjustments to various things like the town size building restrictions, restructuring of spells and other improvements as well as adding a few new things. I should of been sending you updates all along as I do have your e-mail, but I didn't know if you were still playing this mod lol.

You can expect this within a week and thanks again. :)

Kirky

Trimula8 First let me say thanks to the design team for UP1.4. I have been away from AoWSM for a long time, and I decided to return to show my son a great turn base game unlike some other games on the market. After downloading the game and a few patches, we decided to run Mod-BNW2.0 to start after some research.
Super job KP, we are having so much non-stop fun. If I'm not at the computer playing, my son is playing. There are so many new heroes, creatures, structures, tons of new stuff. Every town is so different. You have to think about each battle instead of just rushing in with no game plan. Your views on heroes(legends) is right on point; making them a little tougher allow players to really enjoy them as they champion your cause. With heroes being able to take a few good hits, you can mix a wide sort of creatures with them, both high & low levels. This element creates strong degree of team work within your squad, unlike before-hero+7 dragons, very boring. We have been playing for several weeks and I still see many heroes & creatures that are new. This is how the game should have been before, I would have never left.
I'm 40+ and been a long time player of turn base games, I can't remember having this much fun. I'm spreading the word among my old heads :) friends to come back and try it again. Please keep up the super! super! Super! great work.

Thanks KP

With this mod the game makes much more fun than before, when I already thought this was a very good game. Now it´s is really great! Thank you Kirky for making this mod.
Although there are a few things I do not like that much:

- Some sizes of the Unit-graphics seem to be to big. (e.g. the Duelist)
- I personally don´t like the "town size building restrictions". The time and costs to build the differnt constructions are restriction enough. On the other hand it takes away the ability to decide the order of construction and the towns are more equal now. That´s a pity.
- The heroes become to strong to fast, which makes playing vs CPU less challenging. Some abilities should not be available, e.g. "Resurrect", "stone skin" (should stay a spell only),...

Well, that´s just my personal opinion, no offense meant.

One thing, Kirky
I read a few posts above, that you sent maps for your mod via email. Could you please upload your maps in the scenarios-download-section? It aould be much easier than sending every fan an email ;)

Now I have to go and play :)

Farewell,
Alarion

Hi Trimula,

I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful comments. It really made me happy to hear not only how much you are enjoying BNW, but also how you get and understand what this mod is all about. When I was reading your comments here and elsewhere about heroes and their ragtag group of followers and how you cheer their victories while mourning the lost, or the way stacks are made up of diverse units and so on, I found myself going YES! each time, lol.

Thank you very much for your post. I really appreciate it a lot.

Kirky

Hi Alarion,

Thank you also for your nice review. You are not the only person who has mentioned that they do not like the way building restrictions are setup. Someone by the name of GraysonT I remember also wrote that while he liked the general concept of town-size building requirements, he thought it was a bit lobsided the way it was currently setup in BNW, and I couldn't help but agree. Which is why this has been changed in the latest version. If you don't think town-size should be a factor at all in what can be built then you still may not like this, but it does give you more freedom in deciding what to build etc.

I also wanted to mention Resurrection. You see the intent of this skill in my mod is that you only use it to resurrect your own units and not ones you kill. If I could make it so it only does this I would, but instead I have to leave it to the discretion of each individual player. I believe if you use resurrect to get free units it becomes way too powerful, and in my opinon anyway, will ruin the game. I will add this to the description of the skill in game so that players can then make an informed decision on how they want to use this skill. I should of done this before and thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I haven't been sending maps to anyone by the way. I do send updates for the mod itself as I work on it and make adjustments or add things. A new update is a few days away and if you or anyone else would like to receive this I will be glad to send it to you when it is ready. All I need is an e-mail. This does partially address at least a couple of the areas in your critique so I hope to hear from you.

Thanks again.

Kirky

Katanaq Hi Kirky,

Your mod is awesome!!! I still agree with others that town size build restrictions need a little adjustment. Could you send me the latest update for your mod with that adjustment in place?

Thanks :)
