Brave New World v2.0

Author File Description
Kirky Picardo PLEASE NOTE THIS MOD REQUIRES THAT UPATCH 1.4 IS INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER!

It has been one year and one day since the brave new world v1.0 was made available. It was definitely time for an update! And after approximately 10-11 months of working on this, I now feel it is ready for release. There has been a ton of content added which I hope BNW players will enjoy. A fixed version of BNW 1.0 is also included in this package which is essentially the v1.1 version which had been making its way thru cyberspace. The only changes to this version are necessary ones in the unit bodies section of the editor so some fixed ILBs are set up properly. I felt it important that this should be included as well.

For players unfamiliar with the original, I should explain that this is a mod which places a great emphasis on heroes. Developing your heroes is an extremely important aspect of game-play and if you do so you will find they are capable of great deeds. This time around, as well as having distinctive portraits, each hero also has a unique body graphic and gone is the generic rider-type for each race. Expect to battle with great looking heroes who smoothly jog around the battlefield with very fluid and realistic animations.

This mod also is very much a tactical combat mod. The battles you have to fight are much more difficult than in the normal game and you will have to defeat powerful creatures as you struggle to expand your empire.

As players of the original might expect, there are many new and exciting creatures which have been added. Some are beautiful while some are bizarre, and still others are downright scary!

You can also expect to find many new artifacts, new map structures, changes to spells and abilities (plus a few new ones) and much, much more!

Finally I will just say that the mod comes with an easy install (same as the original) and this time around we have included some good documentation for you with illustrated tables and lots of information.

So prepare thyself brave one, for the new world beckons!

Hi Sausud,

I like colorful units too and have tried in this mod to make new and often even old units as nice and colorful as I can. This is a fantasy game after all. :)

I also want to congratulate you on Tales of Matunmura: The Titan Gate. I think it really is a beautifully designed map and you have done a magnificent job on it!

Thanks for the comments. :)

Additional Comments:
There’s a lot I could write about BNW, but let me just summarize by saying that if you haven’t tried it out you definitely need to! It adds so much more variety to just about every aspect of the game: new wizards, new items, new artwork, new buildings, and that doesn’t even include all of the incredible new units! Kirky Picardo is an absolute grandmaster of the ILB and he has certainly proved it here. What’s more the mod makes some very interesting changes to basic game play and requires you to come up with new strategies which is definitely refreshing for anyone who wants to try something different. The amount of work it must have taken to do this on top of everything else is just mind boggling, so thank you Kirky for your mod and for making it available for everyone else to enjoy! It’s simply a phenomenal piece of work.

Hi TabLight,

Well I have to say thank you very much your nice review. From your e-mail I know you are a modder yourself, so I really feel quite proud that you have such nice words for my mod :)

By the way, your comment about making the mod available makes me think I really should mention something...

As some people may know I have been working on a 2.5 version for BNW thats adds some new things. It is not completely ready, but I do have a working version of it. I put it at a filesharing website so a few guys I play with could get it as well as a few others who have inquired about it.

If there are any BNW players out there who would like to have this you can get it at:

http://s3.uploadline.com/line/7097679/BNW2.5_12_28_06_.zip.html

It comes with a self installer just like 2.0, however there is no documentation of any kind and things that are set up in this version may be set up differently in the final version.

However if you play BNW and want some new stuff you may want to check it out!

Happy New Year!

:)

Kirky

wusong Hi Kirky,

Thank you very much for all your recent work. I've just downloaded the file and I am very excited and thrilled to view the new updates as soon as I get back home tonight.

I hope that in addition to the new Heroes, you have also saved the old information, especially the one regarding the race of the elves.

I would like to thank you again and of course I will keep on updating the forum with my comments
about your new version

thanks

First of all, this is a much postponed review but I finally got to it :)

This Mod adds superb new Graphics to the game, new units for all races, new items, new heroes, etc! Heroes and hero-development are important in BNW, and they not the standard mounted heroes, but have a rich variety of stances, clothes and attitudes!

I think kirk's words are better to describe his own Mod, but what I would like to point out here is that this Mod doesn't strafe too much from the game; and I think that was done in a good way here. By that I mean all original races, spells etc. are still here, but at the same time they have new units/details that have the same 'flavor' of the originals of the game. And all that with great new graphics here and there!

This Mod was also made in a VERY professional way: the new graphics border on perfection, there are no missing animations or strange things happening, there is a beautiful documentation to it, and the changes were obviously well thought and organized.

I just got BNW 2.5 and the Mod keeps being improved and taken care of by its maker. this is excellent!

To sum it up, this Mod is just a must have for anyone that owns AoW: SM!!!!!

Additional Comments:

The dedication and effort put into this masterpiece can VERY easily be underrated and barely be understandable. It borders on insanity, a good kind of labor of love insanity that is :) Converting graphics from other games is a time consuming and sometimes frustrating job, and Kirk's professional work is nothing short of pure inspiration for me.

I also have been e-mailing Kirk for a long time because Mods such as this one inspired me to Mod myself, and his eagerness to help and friendliness are just outstanding. I really thank Kirk Picardo for making this Mod that extended immensely the lifespan of AoW SM!!!

Additional Comments: This mod is absolutely brilliant, I love playing it and I love making maps for it.

There are so many units in this mod that you wouldn't even necessarily even know were there, unless you were playing custom maps. Inevitably when a mod has this many weird and wonderful creatures they can't all be built in cities, some you might meet occasionally as defenders of resources, but many you can only find in custom maps.

There are far too many units that I adore to list them all, all with brilliant animations and sounds, but some include: Murlocs (my favourite!), Water Weird, Battle Unicorn, Koda Bear, Elementalist, Mana Fiend.

Keep up the great work Kirky, and thanks for another brilliant work of art!
Itt1099 Awesome mod but the individualized character
equipment screens seem to have stayed generic on mine. Any ideas?

Hi Itt1099,

Individualized character equipment screens seem to have stayed generic...

Hmmm...by this you mean you don't see new units/heroes etc. in game?

If this is so then the reason will almost certainly be because your game is not patched properly. You need to have applied the unofficial 1.4 patch which includes the 1.3 patch. Now this may sound confusing if you are new, but the last official patch made by the actual game developers was version 1.3, and that patch updated the exe file to version 1.3 for example, while upatch 1.4 adds additional material and makes some changes to game play, but does not update the exe file.

When you start the game at the main screen in the lower right corner you should see:

UPatch 1.4 / Version 1.30.0.2614

If you see something other than 1.30... for version then your game is not updated properly. I am not allowed to go into detail about this here, but I do know of some people who after patching the game then take an extra step which essentially sets their game version back to 1.0 and I suspect that you may of done this as well.

If you send me an e-mail I will make sure your game is patched correctly.

Thanks.

P.S.

While I am here I would like to thank Wusong and Merkraad for the recent coments and a very special thank you to Roger the Rampant for all the support you have given and especially your hard work creating wonderful maps made specifically for Brave New World players.

P.S.S.

I may as well also mention again for those who don't know, you can get an update to BNW at:

http://uploadline.com/download.php?id=47097679

This is the version which I am currently playing while continuing to work on an official update. Though still a work in progress, it includes many new heroes, new structures and cool new units among other things. The official update may make more changes than this version such as at least one new race, but this version is a lot of fun nevertheless. For anyone who enjoys BNW this is probably something you might want to check out.

Thanks all!

:)

Kirky

Katanag Hey Kirky!

I have been playing only BNW 2.4 since I got it! Its just what AoW:SM should always have been!!!

However, it seems I cannot try 2.5 because I cannot download it.
Uploadline.com seems to be always down or overcrowded (too little bandwidth I guess). Would it be possible for you to upload 2.5 to some other file sharing place like
http://rapidshare.com/
or something?

Thanks!

Hi Katanag,

I have uploaded 2.5 to rapidsharing as you suggested as the other place seems to have problems.

You can now get the BNW 2.5 update at:

http://rapidshare.com/files/18473656/BNW2.5.zip.html

Hope you enjoy the new additions and thank you for the comments.

:)
