This new mod tries to add a little more magic to the already magical world of AoW:SM. How is this done?
In a nutshell:
Lower level units have value throughout the game. Rushing to level fours and building stacks of monsters is not encouraged. The intention is to make more expensive units stronger to not to the extent that they make cheaper units worthless.
Buildings generate income and mana. Instead of starting with a city that has gives you gold, you choose your city upgrades. Do you want to go for research? Build a library and wizard tower II. Mana and growth? A temple complex and monastery. Gold?!! Then build a Builder's Hall and Siege Workshop.
Cities grow slower and structures are determined by city size. You can speed this up by building buildings with growth benefits. But again, this isn't a race to the Champion's Guild. There are so many interesting units in between, and this mod encourages you to explore them.
Units and races are very unique and have their own flavour. In 1.4 rules, low and high level units tend to mimic each other. You have the level one swordsman with block, the level four with 30 hit points and so on. In Dwiggs, there is more variety among units. I have not added heaps of new units, but tried to make existing ones more interesting. But, you'll find plenty of new critters to build and buy as well :
Heroes. They are more than walking domains now. Each hero line is unique and limited to certain upgrades. Warriors have higher hit points but they can't cast spells. Rangers are swift and deadly at range but won't be able to fight off a Paladin hand to hand. There are over 100 new and unique heroes with individual portraits, graphics, and descriptions.
Wizards. Wizards now start with a skill that matches their personality.
Unique units can now be hired at recruiting structures: no more buying what you can easily build.
What's new to Dwiggs_1.4?
Over 100 new heroes with custom written descriptions and individualized graphics.
Three new Races-the Fey Folk, Demons, and Lizards-with new racial portraits, units, heroes, and cities.
New abilities: Trap II, Entangle III, Control Animal II, Stunning Magic Bolts, Pixie Bolts, Dwarven Fire, Flaming Arrows, Black Javelins, to name a few of them.
Unique heroes with modified abilities and each with his/her custom animations, many of which are gracing the AOW world for the first time!
And there's probably a lot more that's new as well :)

First i thank stranger for his gr8 mod and thank everyone who worked on it for giving a gr8 time playing AOW. me and my brother are aow freaks.. we spend days playing this game.
i particularly enjoy the graphics on aow. and the mod gives plenty of it. i also particularly liked the description on the heroes.. i was really expecting to play a campaign on this new mod(as if its a new game altogether), the mod was so fresh.
as the other users i too experienced some of the errors(which in no way affected the gameplay). but i would really like to play the version that comes with everything right.
Some of the errors which i caught are listed..
-Julia's portrait missing
-so is three other wizards'
-in create wizard mode my male wizard had 'Seduce' :|
-many of the units' graphics' missing 'dragon hatchling' for instance
I am looking forward to the Upatch.. :)
Cheers

I realize that some are going to roll their eyes or think I'm an idiot, but this is my first time to ever try a mod for a computer game.
I downloaded the dwiggs_5.0 and it showed that it installed correctly, but how to I get it to activate so that I can play it?
I tried reading through all of the pages, but I think after so many postings, I may have missed what told me how to activate it.
I appreciate any help. |

Hey Hein,
What you need to do is go to your main Age of Wonders directory where you installed the game. It's usually located in program files. Once in there, look for the blue and silver icon titled AoWSM.setup. Click it and select Dwiggs from the drop down menu at the bottom right.
Regards,

I would like to say THANK YOU for what you have created!!! Finally a game that rivals my beloved "Master of Magic" (the whole reason I bought my first computer years ago!)
So far out of the 486 times I've played it, I've had a Blast. What? you say...I haven't had it long enough to play it that many times...well, it keeps kicking my butt, so yeah I have! ;P
Every time I play I find new monsters, heroes, etc...it's put the fun back into the game. I had gotten a bit too complacent in playing and now I have to actually plan out long term strategy, because the minute I think I can coast, I get caught off guard.
The only bit of frustration I have are the halflings. I've had WAY too many heroes killed by one small halfling with a spear or on horseback!!! I'm to the point of blocking them out when I do random map generations.
I hope the designers have paid attention to what you've done with their game and maybe we will see an Age of Wonders 3 on the horizon?
I hope you do another update to this fantastic mod someday.
Thank you again for all of your hard work!!!! |

Hi
I install Shadow Magic from Antology, than UPatch 14 and to this point the games can be played. When I start play with mods, the horror comes out. I install your mod first, then Arsenal and CoMa. I always have the same result. The game dont load the campaign map and also not even a scenario. I have an option to choose witch campaign i can play - whan I choose exp. Nomads and press start, I see a film, than a page with my Hero - than I press another start and the games come back to the screen with campaign.
I rally want to play with this mod but I dont now what is wrong.
I use Setup, put english on and choose which mod i want to play.
Thx for any advise. |

Pure bliss, your work is very appreciated. I find this mod rather exciting, fresh and mostly quite polished considering how many new things are added. I especially love new heroes, units, building tweaks.. overall I love all of it!
Thumbs up and keep working with this thing! Near perfection. |

What is Dwigmod5.0.exe for?
In order to activate the mod, do you just have to select Dwiggs5.0 as custom resource with AoWSMSetup.exe? |

Thanks everyone for your kind words :-)
In regards to the exe file, you don't need to use it. But, if you use it some of the racial building bonuses will change:
Tigrans get blurred
Humans get real Crusader bonus (+2 res)
and a couple more that I can't remember :0
Otherwise, just set up the mod in the AoWsetup as per usual.
