Magog This map has potential, but first of all it needs a story. I have no idea who these heroes and wizards are. It also needs more detailed terrain, including elevated terrain. A bunch of storytelling events could be nice as well.

Edit : I made these comments after playing an older version of this map (which I rated 2.6 overall). I haven't played the latest version.

ok, ok the story is not...hmmm
in the next version i will add some events and text,
the main thing is that my English is not very advanced and there will be many mistakes:( .Maybe i write the story in german. Deutch is leicht:)

thanks for comments - write more (petis@post.sk)!!!
BlackRose petis i'm assuming you keep a good tab on this. I find it a little strange that w/o explanation you rated one of my lord of the rings maps so horribly w/o any justification and now you just released a LoTR map of your own. I put a lot of work into my scenerio's and i'm hoping that you at least downloaded it and had a look at the time and detail i've placed in all my scenerios. Altough i respect peoples opinion i'd have a hard time accepting your 2.2 overall rating.

Thanks.

Playability: 4
Fine. Not too hard, not too easy.

Balance: 4
As before, fine

Creativity: 2
Its a LOTR map. Not much creativity needed for that. However, it is good so a 1 here will bring it way too much down.

Map Design: 3
Better than i had thought. The map is good, however i dont like the edges - way too flat and empty. There is also a lot of "Noname" towns around that has nothing to do with Tolkien universe. I also think it lacks some roads.

Story/Instructions: 2
Well - Not much story in it. A few starting events and a reinforcement. I think there also is way too many typos hither and dither in citynames and the few events.

Additional Comments:
After having seen your thrashing of BlackRoses GOOD map, i got the impression that you were a kid having just made this in a few hours. I was wrong, and sorry for that.

*i am sorry, but i dont understand this sentence
(i think there also is way too many typos hither and dither in citynames)
*you gave me an 1 in creativity :( ,but you are right i am not Tolkien (althrought a better number has puched my rating up;)

i am content about your rating (special about the playability and balance:)

please, write me just anything, so i can know what i shall improve...

Hasbone Typos=Spelling Errors. I think there are some errors with spelling and grammathicks. But your not english (neither am i) so it can be forgiven :P. And since youre not from england, i think you use your own languages version of the leader names
Galahad_2nd The concept of this map is great. Tolkien's world offers a rich environment with an already developed background, which fits well with the AoW game system. But the War of the Ring has been overworked, and is not really a good AoW campaign because the military situation was unbalanced and everything hinged on the individual actions of Frodo, Sam, and Gollum. Events from the earlier history of Middle-Earth work much better. I designed MIDDLE-EARTH IN THE SECOND AGE and now MIDDLE EARTH IN THE FIRST AGE: QUEST OF EARENDIL; and BlackRose did Battle of Azanulzibar. Now this map brings the wars of earlier in the Third Age, centered around the Witch King of Angmar. This is a very good setting for a multi-player map, with the familar lands of Middle-Earth but much different and more balanced realms.

But this map could be much improved from the current version. I agree with Magog, this map doesn't tell the story of who all these people are or what they want to do. The new Event messages for each side on Turn 1 in version 1.8 help a little, but not much. The designer assumes that all of the players are really hardcore Tolkien geeks who are going to study Appendix A and Appendix B of Lord of the Rings to understand what is going on. People who have just seen the movie won't understand anything.

On the other hand, if the players are really hardcore Tolkien geeks, they will be disappointed in the inaccuracies of this map. The central conflict is Arnor against the Witch King of Angmar (called the Black Wizard in this map), and the king of Arnor at that time (about 1940 T.A.) is indeed Arvedui. But other places and characters are from all over the Third Age, from Kings of Gondor who had lived 1000 years later, to places such as the Shire, Rohan, and Dol Guldur which would not be founded until much later. OK, this is picky and most players won't care, but if you going to pull obscure names out the Appendices to LotR, why not do it right?

Other suggestions:
1. Arvedui's city "Noname" should be "Fornost", and should be the capital of Arnor at that time. Also, his city which is named "Eriador" is much too far west; that area is Lindon. and Eriador was a general name for a wide area but east of there. Other cities should be Cardolan and Rhuduar; and ruins of Annuminas. (See MIDDLE-EARTH IN THE SECOND AGE, though I have Amon Sul as just a watchtower not a city.)
2. Celebrian is one of the wizards; the spelling is correct and starting her at Lothlorien with Galadriel is OK. But the portrait is a male one, not female, and I think that the designer might have Celebrian mixed up with Galadriel's husband Celeborn. Celebrian was the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn, wife of Elrond, and Arwen's mom, who died long before she could become Aragorn's mother-in-law. When Galadriel talks to Aragorn about Arwen, she is speaking of her granddaughter, and the pendant which Arwen gave to Aragorn was from Galadriel via Celebrian. Having her in this map is good, but probably Galadriel should be the wizard for that side and Celebrian just a hero. Galadriel should be te one who stays in the wizard's tower and casts spells. You should add Celeborn as a hero as well.
3. Elrond (mispelled as Elond) is a hero of the White Wizard (Saruman, not yet evil at that time), and is potentially an enemy of his wife Celebrian. It would be more sensible to have all of the Elves on one side.
4. The "Elvenking" in Mirkwood is named Thranduil; this was Legolas's father. (In The Hobbit, yes, he is usually called just Elvenking.)
5. Sauron should not be in this map, and Mordor should not be rebuilt until later nor should Dol Guldur exist yet. Especially, the Black Wizard -- the Witch King, a ringwraith controlled by Sauron's will -- should not be in potential conflict with Sauron. He did not take the form of the Eye until much later.
6. Lots of words are spelled incorrectly. OK, I understand that English is not everybody's native language, so mispellings of English words can be overlooked. (It is certainly much better than I could do in German!) Also understandable is "Ringmonster", probably a different English translation of the German translation of "Ringwraith". But this map has lots of proper names -- based on Elvish not English -- mispelled as well: Anor instead of Arnor, Elrond's name, etc.
7. Rivendell should not have any ships, so far from the sea.
8. Galadriel's cloak should be a Torso item, not a Use-item, now it cannot be worn and is useless.
9. Why not call "The White Wizard" Saruman? (if you want to still have the wizards -- they didn't come until after this war but it does make an interesting side to have several good spellcasters but few units) Likewise, call "The Black Wizard" by the correct name, the Witch King. Maybe you can import portraits of them from the movie as well.

Also, the map shares problems with most of the Middle-Earth maps on this site:
1. Low playability because of too many units. In this case, the starting units are not excessive but many stacks join on turn 1.
2. Trying too hard to have all eight wizard slots filled. Folks, just have wizards that make sense for your map; no need to invent new races, put characters and races at a much earlier time than they should be, etc. Sides that are natural allies should be a single wizard, and remember that you can have several races controlled by a one wizard. More wizards hurts playability anyway.

I'm not giving it a rating, because it was obviously intended as a multi-player map and I just did a couple of turns of Single-player and studied in the map editor (and it was version 1.80, not 1.90). But I think that it can be greatly improved, and I hope these comments help.

Thanks you Tolkiens fan for your huge comment :)

But this map could be much improved from the current version. I agree with Magog, this map doesn't tell the story of who all these people are or what they want to do.
* ok, you right, but it takes a long time for me to write even samll messages in english corectly, i will better use this time to improve the map design, playability...as to write messages full off failers.

the Witch King of Angmar (called the Black Wizard in this map), and the king of Arnor at that time (about 1940 T.A.) is indeed Arvedui. But other places and characters are from all over the Third Age, from Kings of Gondor who had lived 1000 years later... etc.
* yes, i know but i wanted to make this map as good as possible
- you will fight for great kings not for noones that had lived and ruled without any important event :)
- other main time unequalments are inclouded to improve the playabity - this will be slow updated in newer version, where i add some 'advanced' events (like building a town in the correct age)

Arvedui's city "Noname" should be "Fornost"
* sorry for that, it was fornost, but as i replaced the town Fornost the name was deleted to noname
******** WILL BE UPDATED ********

"Eriador" is much too far west; that area is Lindon. and Eriador was a general name for a wide area but east of there. Other cities should be Cardolan and Rhuduar and ruins of Annuminas.

* thanks for this, i have realy mix them...

* sorry, i cannot marge Elrond with the other elves, this will cause an unbalnce on booth sides (the elves will be to mighty, with an large teritory behind the Misty Mountains, Saruman will be too weak...)
* but, if i find an other sollution for this problem, i will update it...

"Elvenking" in Mirkwood is named Thranduil; this was Legolas's father. (In The Hobbit, yes, he is usually called just Elvenking.)

* as by elves (see above), this action will deformate the scenarious playability

* thanks for this comments, all invalid english names will be updated - you are right, the spelling in my language is a bit differetn as in English:)

Rivendell should not have any ships, so far from the sea.
* i wanted to make it more interesting, but youre right:)
