Battle for Midgard part 1
"After the lich king Kaemon was defeated in 1236 the lands around the river Acheron became relatively peaceful. Without the lich king to control their corpses, the legions of undead collapsed and evaporated and the orcs returned to their homes in the south. Many warlords had since taken command of the orc tribes and attempted to organize them into an assault but they never succeeded. Meanwhile the dwarves and humans on the west side of the river forged an alliance to facilitate trade between them. This peace remained until the year 1454. The old orc warlord was challengedand defeated by a shaman whose power surpassed anything the other orcs had ever seen. Immediately, they bowed to this new leader. At the same time the remnants of the lich king's undead legions in the north began to gather up again. It seemed the old creature had returned again and now his legions were again marching toward the river and the kingdoms on its west bank. War had again touched the eastern lands."
-Excerpt from "A Complete History of Midgard vol. 5"
Acheron's Call is a completely redone version of my first scenario, Winds of Change. Think of this as the 2.0 version. Sides have been changed, more events added, and so on and so forth. In all this one is vastly superior.
This is a medium, 4 player map meant to be played as a 2v2 game. |

Playability: 2
There's not much to do. There are very few objects and then you fight.
Balance: 2
I would say that for multiplayer is balanced but the undead are surrounded by a huge forest which is unfair.
Creativity: 2
This one is hard to say. The author has placed some quests/objects but they are too far out of the way and are best ignored. If you went after them you would leave yourself open for a quick attack.
Map Design: 1
The large landscape brush was used.
Story/Instructions: 3
Just a couple of words as a story but multiplayer games don't usually have much so I gave it an average rating.
Additional Comments:
I'm not going to play this one again. |

Playability: 2
Well, the other side will always be able to find but never overpower you.But really, you're only gonna see
5 or 6 different units being used, and its actually rather hard to fully explore, with that gigantic forest and domain of darkness almost certainly in use.
Balance: 4
When every side has 2-3 cities and exactly 2 nodes and few mines, its balanced, but not very exciting.
Creativity: 2
The quests, especially the Dragon king ones were good, but it can't make up for very basic landscape.Heroes and wizards were ok,and items were actually a high point, with their own descriptions and everything.I wonder why more people don't do this?
Map Design: 1
The humans have green carpeting instead of vegetation. And if Darklands is cast, everything gets paved. There's not any elevation differences used, even though its specifically mentioned. And its divided into four symmetrical quadrants. The battles over the river are the only really interesting one terrainwise.Want a good example of the sameness?Even surrounded by domain of darkness,I still knew where my opponents cities were, since their territory was a mirror of my own.
Story/Instructions: 3
The story is rather good, and most towns have a history.Going underground always nets you a large quest and some kind of boss and reward at the end, like a classic dungeon crawl.
Additional Comments:This map looks like a human wrote it and a machine designed it.The RMG will make less playable and balanced but better looking and more surprising maps.Of all the qualities in a map,I consider balance to be the least.

Good scenario for FFA, but there are problem with quest rewards for the special quest, and the looks arn't particularly creative. |
