Quick Note v1.31 February 10th 2004
MrFrumpkins pointed out a slight installation error, the LordoftheRingsResource Folder was missing, its been re added (It still works however but to avoid installation difficulties i changed it!)
LordoftheRingsv1.3 Map had one slight error, Orcist was wearable on the head, this was a minor glitch and i'm really not sure how it got there! It has been fixed.
Sorry to have to do another mini update!

Final Version 1.3
If you've played v1.1 it was but a taste of what this map/mod pack has to offer. Get the definitive version!
If your skeptical about Mod Packs, Installation and Removal is easy, you owe it to yourself to try this. No other LoTR Scenario will offer quite what this one is!
Nearly a 100 Custom LoTR Units with descriptions and
unique abilites and statistics.
*30 More than 1.1*
Almost All Heroes now have Portraits
Brand New and Revitalized Map, very detailed!
1300 Events to make this Scenario unfold very much like the War of The Ring and Beyond. Should Play differently every time!
*More than Double 1.1 versions total events*
120 LoTR Items, More than 1/2 With unique scripted descriptions. (Pick the Item up to find out!)
(You can put it down and pick it back up if you already are in possession of the item!)
*Nearly Triple versions 1.1's Item Count*
5 Playable Sides Difficulty **** is hardest.

All sides are difficult however, this map is very challenging!
Active Cpu controlling Harad.
New Interaction with Sauron and the map (The game will play a little slower at the begining but not nearly as slow in the end game)
A fine and rousing single player experience, and also set up for multi player. The Fellowship is split in such a way as to allow 3 or 4 players to take on Sauron's Alliance. Provides a challenge for even all 5!
This should be the final version unless any bugs are found (its been thoroughly tested) or if an update is needed for AoWSM v1.3.
Remember to support your local Map and Mod Makers by adding ratings and comments (not just for mine!) as feedback makes the process all worthwhile and encourages more maps and mods to be released!

If you load up the map in the editor there is a cave (I think its in the far left) either in the underground or possibly in the shadow realm.
There should be a sign, you can read the text, it tells you where every special unit can be found, and the requirements to do so.
You can only access it via the editor. |

This is a very playable map.
Balance: 5
Of course Sauron has much more units then any other player but it is so in the books.
When I played it, it was a bit easy, but I played every wizard and looked at the cheat card. ;)
Creativity: 5
You added any unit from the book. Even Elledan & Elrohir.
Map Design: 5
The map looks very good. You see immediatly it is Middle Earth
Story/Instructions: 5
You don't have to read the books if you have played this scenario. ;)

The game is a bit slow because of too much units gathering in one place (in Mordor or Isengard). Sometimes I get hit by DarkStorm of Sauron while I was not able to move my stacks out of Saruman's domain.
Balance: 5
Balance is not meant to be in this scenario. Some have given low point for this criteria but I think it should not be because unbalance is meant here.
Creativity: 5
The scenario is rather well adapted to the novel and the film. Events are well done. The idea of bring back Beorn, The skin-changer to join is cool!
Map Design: 4
I was expecting to see some awesome structure identical to the novel or the film (like Gondor citadel, Helm Keep). The Patch1.4 support many beautiful structures (like those I saw in maps Secrets of Marlenia or Gates of Elocin created by The Groll.
Story/Instructions: 5

Thanks so much for the review, but I just wanted to clarify one point. I designed this under the AoW2:SM 1.2 Engine (yes 1.3 wasnt even out) and probably a year or so before 1.4 was even released.
In anycase all those wonderful graphical improvements and units were not available to me at the time! |

Oh, I did not know that was made for version1.2. I've therefore modified the note :) But I still do hope to see the new map version in short future :)
One question, why does the battle is ended when I killed Saruman and all the stacks are out of MP as if I've fled from the fight ?
And why is Beorn's son not a hero but just an unit ? Because of the bear shape, I guess ?
Plus this, if you remove all the tower in cities you should also ban all global spells those cause harm to opponents' cities and units. That would be more logical with the story. The Harad (Nomad in scenario), play only one small part in the story but in this scenario they cast Fire Storm on me every turn and cast Fire Domain. Sauron too, he casts Death Storm every turn and casts Damnation, Poison Domain,... That would be a point of unbalance in this scenario.[Edited on 03/25/06 @ 07:08 PM]

Hmm, are you sure your playing with the custom resource set? Its been a while but I dont recall the harad having fire domain? The only way Sauron will be effecting you with his spells is when you approach the black gates and into his domain (there is a basis for this). Also the names of the spells have all changed and many of them are not available to either the allies or saurons forces.
Not sure what you mean about killing Saruman. If you are reffering to the the orcs that become independant and keep coming that is to partly to do with the AI and I also left it because his forces wouldnt just dissapear when he died, they'd still pose a threat just more minor. |

Of course mod LoTR is selected otherwise how can we load the screnario as it must be ?
I suffer fire domain and fire storm each turn from that Harad guy. Besides Sauron does not only cast Death Storm but he cast Poison Domain, Dark Domain, Damnation, well brief, all the death global spell that he is abble to cast. It is not logic to the story but it would make some challenge and play some fearsome effect of Sauron on people. It's just that Nomad guy with his Fire that I dont like at all. Sometime he casts even Wither on my city which is not bearable!
You misunderstood me about the killing-Saruman thing. I know after his death, his stacks became indies (those indies even killed Sauron's stack near the tower lol). What I was telling you that in the tactical battle with 3 stacks of Saruman (himself included and a stack of Sauron), WHEN I KILLED SARUMAN, THE BATTLE'S ENDED IMMEDIATELY AND ALL THE MOVEMENT POINTS OF MY STACKS ARE ZERO AS IF I FLED FROM THE BATTLE. Therefore, I had to wait till the following day to end the rest.[Edited on 03/26/06 @ 10:27 PM]
