The World of Xeen is splintered, into the darkside and the cloudside,
neither place has ever been safe.
But since the two wizards,
Corak and Sheltem, aka King Alamar got stranded in Xeen, things are even worse.
Sheltem has seized control over the Darkside and put his lapdog King Xeen
to rule over the Cloudside, where the confused and accused King
Burlock struggles to remain on the throne.
Meanwhile, Queen Kalindra of the darkside is reported missing, far away from her
Castle. The smart ones accuse King Alamar of this evil deed.
But all hope is not lost, since the Dragon Pharao has sent for help, and
mobilize his dragonpeople this very moment, to counter King Alamar's
plans. And on the brighter side, Corak has rallied heroes to help him
stop his nemesis Sheltem, forever.
A worldwide conflict is about to rock Xeen, involving everyone, from the
giants of Magic Rift to the populace of Asp.
This is an enourmous scenario, why I haven't been able to COMPLETELY test it.
It is a copy of the world of Xeen map, if anyone remembers my favourite rpg,
Might and Magic 4 & 5.
Finally a note to everyone of you who play to win:
this map does not feature equal starting positions at all. It is a map
made for the people who play to have fun. Not to win.
This is a link to a great computer game museum, featuring the
papermaps that shipped with the game!
Helpful for battle tactics!

Playability: 5
(Insert Playability analysis here)This map blew me away from the first time I saw it. Then, right away there were cool things to do, including a quest. Fantastic!
Balance: 5
(Insert Balance analysis here)Haven't played enough to really critique the long term balance, except the first few goals were well done.
Creativity: 5
(Insert Creativity analysis here)The creativity of this map is over the top, I am super impressed. I wish the people crying for a random map generator, would take a close look at this and some other maps I've downloaded, they wouldn't have any more time for crying, they'd be lost playing the scenarios for the next year or two.
Map Design: 5
(Insert Map Design analysis here)Blew me away the first time I turned it on, reloaded it with different wizards, and then saw the underground. Fantastic!
Story/Instructions: 5
(Insert Story/Instructions analysis here)Well, right away there were cool narrations, and quests. Very nicely - professionally - done.
Additional Comments:I gave it a perfect 5 across the board, because it is so well done, and the presentation grabbed me right away. My experience has shown me that something this good initially, will usually pan out ok.

Whenever there is a map that's twice the size other maps are, I want to see if it's any good. Both caverns and the surface have been complately filled, so at least there is much to play.
Balance: 4
The balance seem to be ok, I didn't really find any bad things to say.
Creativity: 3
Well it's based on HoMM, so I don't know if you can call that creative. But that's just a matter of taste. And there are only few user made items and heroes.
Map Design: 4
Lot of different kind of terrain have been used, and quite well. The map maker has even bothered to use the hills, that so many others don't use...are they lazy? Who knows. ;)
Still, this map seemed to flat for my taste. More hills people!
Story/Instructions: 2
I can't understand how the previous reviewer can give 5 to this category, I mean, there is no story. There are decent amount of events, but there is no story in them, just few area description.
Additional Comments:
A nice map overall, good for mp games, I'm sure, but it seems that the map is still unfinished in some ways. The author should have spent bit more time with the map to make it even better.

Magnificent scenario full of interest. I couldn't get the druid quest to work probably because I already had the item before capturing the mill. These sort of scenarios are what make AOW 1 or 2 such a great game. This one is a classic - keep them coming!

This review comes from the now closed site aow2battleground.com. My review system there was a bit different, but I've tried to translate the ratings as good as I can.
Map author : Camelrider, Map size : XL, Rating : 66,7%
This Camelrider guy seems to do nothing else than creating maps... But in difference from other people releasing 2 maps per week, his creations are really good. This one is no exception.
The "world of Xeen" is an RPG world from another game, but the map is of course also playable by people who never heard of Xeen before (like me). There's a really good story and detailed descriptions of the wizards. The sad thing with XL maps is that the AI movement late in the game is really slow.
Play this if you like XL maps and have a fast computer.
Balance : 4
The wizards are unbalanced on purpose. Quote from readme : "Finally a note to everyone of you who play to win: this map does not feature equal starting positions at all. It is a map made for the people who play to have fun. Not to win."
I guess us people who think the fun is in winning should play another map. :)
Graphic details : 7
Looks good in some areas and need more work in others.
Story/Instructions : 10
A nice story, wizards descriptions, lots of signs and storytelling events makes it more fun to play.
Customization : 5
The wizards are custom, and a bunch of heroes and items has been added to the default ones.
Creativity : 7
I have no idea if this looks like the real Xeen, but it looks good. There are also many creative events.
Fun : 5
XL maps are almost pointless to play, as the AI movement takes way to long late in the game. This map also has some teleporters that I don't like and the underground is completely dug out and looks just like the surface.

This is an excellent conversion of the classic World of Xeen map. I've logged many hours playing both the original and an Heroes of Might and Magic II version; and this is almost as good as the original. I have yet to try any of the other maps for AoWII since I found this. |

Playability: 4
Fun map, but more of an exploration map than a story or battle map.
Balance: 1
Map-maker says map is unbalanced and he's right.
The four good wizards always ally against the two evil wizards.
Creativity: 2
Based on Might and Magic IV and V.
Map Design: 4
Beautiful map.
Story/Instructions: 2
Very little story.
Additional Comments:
I recommend playing as Kalindra, as she has a nasty habit of dying if CPU controlled.
Or play the evil wizard(s) for a greater challenge.
The map is better than the 2.6 score suggests.[Edited on 11/25/06 @ 07:11 PM]

An absolutely gorgeous map which provides hours of singleplayer fun. As for the balance and originality issues, I believe a map should be judged according to the goals set by its author. |

Outcome of game is different most of the time.
Balance: 2
King Burlock has a really tough go at it, and keeps getting hammered by Sheltem. Found 1 unmarked sign. Also the Druid Luna quest didn't work for me either... she was recruited by some other AI wizard I guess and killed. I didn't check but, do all the allied wizards have peacemaker as a skill? - I noticed several of the AI allied good wizards had a few stacks of evil aligned units - always having grumpy morale...
Creativity: 3
Mostly the same as the RPG game.
Map Design: 5
Nice levels upstairs and down - you can hardly tell it was dug out - must have been lots of work...could use a bit more eye candy though. Also its unfortunate Darkside couldn't be created next to Cloud world on the surface level. ...I guess it'd be too cramped. (It's frustrating when you can't cast lightning storm in underground lvl or other global nasty spells)
Story/Instructions: 4
(Insert Story/Instructions analysis here)
Additional Comments: Overall good scenario, but takes alot of CPU cycles.... a real plodder unless you got one of those souped-up modded computers....

Excellent map. But not so hard & long: 54 turns were enough :)
Playability: 5
Excellent, as usually in Camelrider's maps.
Balance: 5
Balance? Isn't it something very important for multiplayer?
Creativity: 4
Could be more events, IMHO
Map Design: 5
Fine & delightful :)
Story/Instructions: 5
Story is simple & good
