MLDEdit can read/write .mld files allowing you to access the all the strings in the Age of Wonders Dictionary files (like spell names / race names / ability names).
How to use the editor:
0. Unzip and start MLDEdit
1. Backup your files before changing them
2. Open the .mld file you want to change (for AoW: SM, this is probably AoWDictResStr.mld)
3. Use the search function to locate a string and change its entry in the language you are playing
4. Save your changes
5. Exit the program
Seems to work with all versions of AoW (thanks to Dhuval for testing it with AoW1)

I think this one is extremely nice, and very easy to use.

To make things more simplistic in the use of this program, I merely installed AoWSM again, in a new location, and kept one application dedicated to mod making, and the other a clean version. Space requirements may prevent this, but it saves the need for back ups, and saves against mishaps of losing said backups (happened to me, which is why I installed a second application.)

Incredibly useful and easily adaptable.
Additional Comments:It was precisely what I required to implement new races in place of old, and once the fundamentals have been understood, a very powerful resource.

I used this tool recently. This is a nice addition to the set of modmaker's tools.
