We're using Jamie's excellent map, The Battle for Creation, as our Monthly Challenge Summer Sizzler. Please note that this is NOT the standard version of his map, he's made it significantly easier, so hopefully this should enable more people to take part in the competition. For the Summer Sizzler you must use this Monthly Challenge version of the map, and you have a whole 3 months to work out the quickest way to complete it!

Fiirsha must be set to CPU Squire. You can play with exploration ON or OFF (but it ran much faster on my PC with exploration ON). You can turn buildable teleporters OFF in the advanced scenario settings, should you so wish

Please save on days 5, 10, 20, 30 and every subsequent 10 days. Save immediately before the final battle then send that save (and that save only) to rampantroj@yahoo.com (or rogerforward@hotmail.com, if the file's less than 1mb). All entries must be received by 23:59 EST on Sunday 31st August 2003

There are a lot of championship points at stake here, so however tough the going may become, please persevere - good luck!!

And if you enjoy playing this version of the map, why not download the (harder) standard version, try your hand at that one, then post a review - I'm sure Jamie would love to know what you think of his epic map, after all he put a lot of time and effort into creating it!

Once, the land of Erithnia was home to two kinds of magic, the raw, brutal magic of creation, the magic of fire and earth and also the gentler magic of life, death, water and air as well as the lesser levels of fire and earth magic. In the warm glow of this elemental magic, the peoples of Erithnia flourished and soon began to use the gentle magic for their own purposes, becoming mages. Clearly defined borders between the realms of different people arose but due to the differences in the races which populated Erithnia, wars erupted and feuds between entire races developed. On the other hand, valuable friendships and alliances were also formed. For aeons, this state of affairs lasted and the land of Erithnia remained in relative balance. But this would not last forever.

Through chance or divine intervention, it will never be known, a human Earth Mage found a gateway to the very source of the raw magic which had long ago created Erithnia and was meant to be locked away from mortal grasp. The power flung him back to where he had come and, blasting the very earth, scourged the gateway off the face of Erithnia. However, the man, Ralagrath, had touched the very magic of the earth and so had turned himself into a new, superior being, a Wizard of the Earth, a being controlling the very magic of Creation. This world altering magic he now controlled dwarfed the lesser magic mages who had inhabited Erithnia since the very beginning. Filled with this magic, he travelled the whole of Erithnia until he came across a small, reptilian race, the Draconians. With the help of his magic, he enslaved the dragons of Erithnia and began to forge an empire out of the divided realms and his empire grew fast for his magic effortlessly crushed the puny magic, mages tried to send against him. He was so strong that at the height of his power, he was even able to banish and forever lock away a traitor in his ranks, Bertraka, who had stolen the power of Earth Magic.

However, his magic could not hold back time and finally, Ralagrath died, taking his magic with him. Behind him though he had left a mighty empire of powerful Draconians and dragons who now, without magic to help them, would slowly loose their grip on their empire. This though would take an age to happen and all the while, the remnants of the raw earth magic of creation, without a controlling hand to guide them, would wreak the very balance of magic in Erithnia.

The gods which had created Erithnia did not wish to see this happen for it would spell their end as well as that of all the inhabitants of Erithnia and so, in their wisdom, decided to give the fiery magic of creation to two mages of Erithnia and to charge them with using their power to banish the earth magic that had been set lose by Ralagrath.

They found two mages whose realms had been weakened by Ralagrath and gave them the knowledge to become Wizards of Fire. The gods though had miscalculated, for Bruuk, an orcish mage of Death would never give up the power he had been given but would instead use it to forge an empire mightier than that of Ralagrath. Only Fiirsha, an elfish mage of Life, could see what the results of giving Bruuk that power would be and so, in an effort to give the people of Erithnia their freedom also took the power of fire.

More wizards with the magic of Creation had been unleashed upon the world and the unstoppable war between them would be cataclysmic, casting shadows over life itself...
