This can be PBEM or MP for up to four players, in single-player (or PBEM co-op) you might like to try to capture the pirate island. Playable races are Halflings, Frostlings, Tigrans and Goblins
In the year 1787, Lieutenant William Bligh, a young naval officer having most recently served as sailing master to Captain James Cook, was commissioned by the Admiralty to undertake a voyage in a small navy ship, the Snickers. The goal of the voyage was to obtain a large number of breadfruit plantings to be taken to the Caribbean, where they would be transplanted to provide food for the slaves in those colonies. The voyage was difficult, and ill-feelings were rampant, although probably no more than on other long sea voyages of the period. After a long stay in Tahiti, to enable the gathering and stowing of the breadfruit plantings on board the ship, the Snickers began its voyage to the Caribbean. On the morning of April 28th, 1789, led by Fletcher Christian, twelve crewmembers staged a mutiny, capturing the ship, and setting Bligh and his supporters adrift in the ship's launch.
FC and his swashbucklers ended up on an island, which they called Bucklers Hard, as it reminded FC of childhood trips to The New Forest. Having already shown a flagrant disregard for the law, they then started to build a lucrative pirate trade, often trading with the infamous Pirates of Xerclea. As their wealth grew, they gradually took up more and more room on the island. Eventually the island was jam-packed with pirates, there was simply no room for any further expansion. Their gaze inevitably turned towards the mainland
The residents of the mainland had turned a blind eye to their explots over the years, for two main reasons. Firstly, the pirates spent a lot of money in the area, and were the main source of income for many local taverns and shops. Secondly, if you didn't toe the line, FC had a habit of chopping your hands off! However, pirates are not really the sort of people that you want your daughters going out with, and the mainlanders certainly didn't want the pirates emigrating to their shire
The majority of mainland residents in the vicinity of Bucklers Hard were either Goblins or Halflings, who tended not to be particularly rebellious by nature. While they were debating amongst themselves how best to deal with FC, or whether to actually do anything about him and his pirates at all, the situation became somewhat more complex
Hordes of Tigrans and Frostlings started pouring in from the south, having decided that they too wanted a share of this lucrative area of the shire. It was war!
