Recently i decided to finish my map Valleys of the Lost II , which had been waiting for release since 2003(ish). I already had a playable version ready at that time but got sidetracked by other games. I finalized it with upatch 1.4 ; updated the scenery slightly(not much though) put together a hero picture collection (which can be downloaded here: http://aow2.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=1058 )added events and new items.
Features:
-Highly detailed world
-Custom hero's and items (alott of new hero pictures)
-High replay vallue (i hope) since you can choose out of 8 wizards
What you can not expect: A big story.
There is a background story and a few popups but otherwise not much. Imo as you replay the map you will skip the story anyway.
Update:
3 versions are available now:
VotL2gve3-2-3:
3 good starting races: Elves,Dwarves and Archons.
2 neutrals races: Nomads and Draconians.
3 evil races:Dark Elves , Orcs and Undead
VotL2-2e4n2g:
2 evil starting races: Dark Elves and Orcs
4 Neutral races:Frostlings , Nomads, Draconians and Humans.
2 good races: Elves and Dwarves.
VotL2-gve4-4
4 good starting races:Archons, Syrons, Elves and Dwarves.
Against 4 evil races: Dark Elves, Undead, Orcs and Shadow-demons.
Anyway i hope you'll enjoy the map as i enjoyed making it.

Playability: 5
Map was very fun to play. More then I would have thought at first.
Balance: 4
AIs aren't real strong but enough independents to make it a challenge to expand.
Creativity: 4
Interesting suprise teleporters, etc...
Map Design: 5
Good mix of open navigation on surface and more restricted in the underground.
Story/Instructions: 4
Good background and some interesting if not too important of pop-ups.
Additional Comments:
I liked that there was a variety of statuses at the towns etc. Some area guards, some guards and some garrisons. It made approaching each town interesting. |

map is too easy
Balance: 4
map is not balanced against ai

great
Map Design: 5
best map design I have ever seen, looks like real magic land. Most important map is not full of towns
Story/Instructions: 5
not applicable to this type of maps
Additional Comments:
I suggest to make many different variants of the map for each human player, and give other ai players big starting army, vast domain etc. |

A very nice map that allows for lots of space and roaming. The beginning is tough in PBEM as I mentioned - as you have to be aware of area guards attacking in the night. As the days go by it does get a lot easier though.
Balance: 4
Due to the variety of terrain, I think that the AI suffers with expansion as it is not so bright. I also have found a lot of archon and undead cities on the map that are independant. This is not an issue in our game as we are playing archon v undead :), but if you play a neutral side, then you might be at a slight disadvantage with oncversion time. Still good though.

Very good
Map Design: 5
Very good

Additional Comments:
My only other comment is that there are no real direct avenues of attack. This is ok for humans, but this also impacts on the AI.
Congrats for the map. |

This is an excellent scenario. I've given it all 5's, except for story. Although there is a story and a few comments along the way, the story doesn't really affect the game play much. This is an XL map and I found no areas that were hastily thrown together. There is well designed and varied terrain everywhere. I've played as three different races and, although it's challenging at times, you can win. All the heroes are new (and whoever created them is a very good artist). As noted by others, the independent guards are harder and more numerous than usual which makes exploring more challenging. On the other hand, there is an independent city, Tarmongaidon, that presents a unique and tough challenge (for good reward).
My only complaint is the teleport system is designed such that a small party, friendly to the player, can in effect disable all teleporting via teleport platforms. Of course, you can still teleport via teleportation gates in your wizard towers.
Next time you get a cold and need to while away the hours until you feel human again, this scenario might just be the medicine you need. :)[Edited on 11/15/10 @ 11:39 PM]

Additional Comments : many years without playing at AoWSM and I found this awefull map ! Woooow ! Great work ! I love this map !
I'm only playing with elves at now but all wizards seems to be good ! I like the story and fixed alliance & war between wizards.
I think you can make more on the storyline and the events (the "3" explication).
One word : thanks for your work which give me the desire to work on map edit again ! :)

Two things draw down the rating here. The extensive (excessive?) use of the distorted terrain trick makes it difficult to maneuver or even locate stacks sometimes. Two, the cut up terrain (extensive rivers w/ rapids, mountains, etc.) make for a VERY long game with a prolonged trek to get at your enemies.
Balance: 5
The map achieves balance, imo, very well, this is one area where the cut-up, circuitous terrain helps, since even the 'in-between' wizards have a pretty good buffer zone between them and the next guy. I do think the shadow demons could use a couple more cities in their start area though.
Creativity: 4
High marks for creativity - a few more events would help even more, but it's overall pretty well done. Heroes have descriptions and fresh artwork, custom artifacts, etc. Lots of work was done here and it shows!
Map Design: 3
I sort of hate to not rate higher here, but the underground tile-on-the-surface trick overuse really bugs me here. It should really only be used for specific effects (raised causeways, waterfalls, etc.) not scattershot in random map areas as here. Other than this the map painting is generally excellent. Again, lots of work was done here and it shows.
Story/Instructions: 4
A couple times the player instructions reach novella length. Otherwise very well done. I DON'T agree that players should be warned of every danger - if you don't scout ahead and lose the game for it, then that's your own fault. What do you think those level 1 units are there for?
Additional Comments: Overall, a very nice map. Be warned that if you plan to play to a final conclusion it's going to take a LOT of turns.
