The fertile valleys of Lastrith are home to the human kingdom of Arikalos. The elves, having been driven from their homeland by the necromancer Soulclaw, are migrating east in search of a new homeland. A conflict seems inevitable.
The elven leader, Essaela, will have to invade and take this land without holding any cities. She will have to search the land for recruits while she waits for her reinforcements to arrive. |

Playability: 4
I ended up finishing in one sessions as the map hooked me with its "just one more turn" quality.
Balance: 4
There was a natural ebb and flow to the balance of forces. The reinforcements and recruitments were well done nice touches, and often quite timely!
Creativity: 5
A well thought out scenario proving small maps can be challenging and fun. It was obvious that a lot of work (manual and mental) went into this.
Map Design: 4
No wasted space, and everything had a purpose. The terrain was strategically placed and visually pleasing.
Story/Instructions: 3
Solid starting plot and continuing dialouge.

This review comes from the now closed site aow2battleground.com. My review system there was a bit different, but I've tried to translate the ratings as good as I can.

For those of you that have been looking for a challenging SP map : here it is.... It's not only challenging, it's close to impossible. The story is kind of a sequel to Alex's "Nomads" map, and now the evil wizard Soulclaw (you) and his forces has been wiped out almost totally. Soulclaw must save himself and then start rebuilding his empire.
You get a few hints what to do as you play, but even with those it's pretty hard to stay alive. It's not a map you win the first time you play it.

The elves has been driven from their homeland by the evil Soulclaw, and now have to fight the humans to conquer a new homeland. In this map your wizard starts without any cities, and must build an army by finding refugees that are scattered across the land.
It's a hard map that you wont win the first time you play it.
Balance : 9
Balance is almost perfect.
Graphic details : 4
Not much time has been spent on decorating this map.
Story/Instructions : 7
Short opening story but many event messages during the game.
Customization : 3
A few heroes and items.
Creativity : 7
Map layout is great and the events are nice, but there's a problem with a custom spirit quest... Crypts and other sites have custom defenders and items.
Fun : 8
It is quite of fun, at least the second time you play it when you know what to do, but the maps replayability drops as the graphic details are quite poor.

Playability: 4
Fun map, but too difficult.
Balance: 2
Maybe I was too impatient, but I decided to attack the enemy HQ as soon as possible, since it was defended by "only" 3 stacks and the enemy had lots of other units, with which it could "turtle".
I attacked with 4 stacks against 3 stacks of mostly machines, Swashbucklers and Crossbowmen and 3 Knights. With very little mana and all the defenders having Fire Halo, it was a very difficult battle. But the enmey obviously had another tower since after the battle he was not defeated. And I only had one Runemaster left of all my 32 units, in addition to two stacks of archers.
Creativity: 4
Nice map and the idea of not controlling any cities was new.
Map Design: 3
Looks nice.
Story/Instructions: 3
There are some events.
Additional Comments:
A different map that probably requires more patience that I have.
One Spirit of Nature Quest didn't work.[Edited on 11/20/06 @ 08:47 AM]
