Long has Iceina reigned in her ice world. Too long according to the fire wizard Volcana. She has sent an expedition to kill the Ice Queen whose empire is being torn to pieces in the Goblin Wars. To stop her fiery lands being overcome with ice, Volcana created a ring of fire to surround her lands. In turn, Iceina called up violent storms to encompass Volcana and to imprision her fiery influence. So now, the only way for the two master wizards to decide the future of the land is to travel underground. Here however, Fangir reigns and he doesn't intend to have imposters in his caverns.
In this game you can play either as Iceina and her frostlings or as the invaders, Volcana and her tigrans. Fangir and his dwarfs seperate the two warring factions and is controlled by the AI.
All the heros are customized as well as about half of the items. The story is strong enough to invlove the players but not so strong as to take over the entire game.
So, there we go, to find out more, just press the download button. I hope you have as much fun playing it as I have had making it.

( Here is a review of this map by Magog, originally at his website for reviewing and downloading maps: http://www.aow2battleground.com )
This is a pure single player map, where the wizard Iceina is under attack from the fire wizard Volcana, and Fangir and his dwarves are stuck in between. You can play as Iceina or Volcana, but Fangir is AI only. Most of the fighting takes place in the underground, and you are prevented from getting to the other wizard on the surface.
The sweet thing with this map is that you have to play different ways depending on which one of the wizards you pick. Volcana can spread quickly in the underground but have to fight Fangirs dwarves a lot. Iceina starts off with almost no gold, a tiny army and an imminent goblin invasion....
Balance : 7
Good balance. The dwarves in the underground are really powerful, but the other AI wizard can sometimes have problems with independents.
Graphic details : 6
The details aren't really anything you pay attention to in this map. It's not that beautiful, but not ugly either.
Story/Instructions : 6
There's a little story in the beginning, and some message events. Wizards have no descriptions. :(
Customization : 7
A bunch of new items and 14 different custom heroes.
Creativity : 9
Good map idea and a really good map layout. Seems to have been well tested. The event list is also long.
Fun : 9
I really liked this map, and had a lot of fun beating up Fangir. As a fire wizard, you have a really hard time against the dwarven AI since he produces a lot of Rune masters, who are Immune to fire... There are many hours of gameplay in this map. There are a few teleporters present, but they're mainly there to help the AI I think.
Really nice map this.

Very fun little map.
Tho i have a distinct feeling you are supposed to play as iceina, as iceina will otherwise be mostly unable to defeat the goblin and undead invasion... let alone rebuild.
Or atleast my few games as volcana hasnt seen iceina rebuild, while as iceina volcana is doing quite nicely fighting the dwarves... and your entrance, into the rear guard of the dwarves is bound to change the landscape of the fight.
Plenty of fun little surprises scattered along the map, althought i consider the wold-infestation to be excessive in force!
Fun detail, somethinbg i did as iceina:
1. Research peacekeeper.
2. Capture a few tigran cities, war shrines, and produce silver sphinxes (drain will!)
3. Invade the undead city.. and rather than emigrating, build in the undead city, making the undead like you!
4. Send silver sphinxes (resurging?!) to capture a few of those super undead joint guards.. game won and with huge.. umm.. bragging rights :D
Althought just one or two of those joint guardians should be enough, i prefer to mass 6 with which to completely assoult the remaining enemies into despair :D
Nothing can stop them you know..[Edited on 09/10/05 @ 07:59 AM]

This is a fun map. I played as the Frostlings and it was great fun defending a watchtower against the goblin hordes in the beginning.
The frostlings may not be the best of the offensive but they sure can defend.
Playing as the Tigrans should be a very different experience, so the map has some replay value.
Balance: 2
Seems balanced, but I guess playing both sides will be needed to decide.
I finished the map in 38 days and there was still quite a lot to explore, so the path between the Frostlings and Tigrans could have been less linear.
EDIT: The AI has much harder time as Frostlings than as Tigrans.
Creativity: 4
Lots of things to explore. All heroes and many items are custom made.
Map Design: 3
Overlnand looks very nice, but most of the underground feels rather contrived.
Story/Instructions: 4

All in all a fun and solid map.[Edited on 10/17/08 @ 02:24 PM]

I also played as Tigrans and again beat the map in 38 turns.
But the AI has much more problems expanding as Frostlings, and never expanded much. The Forstling queen was forced into the void on day 3, and she also lost all her heroes by day 23. |
