PLAYABILITY
I'd say this map is mostly dominated by the HUGE tension line running straight from one Wizard(tower) to the other. In other words, within 5 days, enemy troops can basically just walk to each other... and main forces can meet decisively as early as 2 days! As a consequence, splitting your force is very risky. Whomever rushes with everything they have, and gets the initiative early, would win.
Some would find this interesting play, however, it mostly leads to long winded stalemates, or very quick decided games... And because large deviations from that above mentioned tension line aren't as well rewarded (or easily executed), I am afraid that most of the map may not even be played.
I see that the drills and such are readily available, though, so that's a good thing, I'd say. However, I would probably advise some additional measures to alleviate this rushing issue. Perhaps have starting troops on surface as well? Or put some deadly Area guards in the center underground?
The idea with the two cities (razed the other if one owned) is very interesting. Meaning, if one strong player captures one, he would also be inclined to DEFEND the other city from being taken. Perhaps there could be some firestorms as well, when this razing happens?
However, I wonder to what extent it will be able to play out with the current strategic design. It may mostly be a case of NOT getting too many units killed to repel or perform an all-out attack.
BALANCE
Yikes, be careful with granting units like Saints. So far, Cilia has the upper hand when it comes to recruits and their availability.
Otherwise, seems OK! No major issues, I think.
ATMOSPHERE
Map is well painted, however lacks even a basic story and background. Some more custom made heroes would be nice as well!
As mentioned, I like the idea that one city gets razed if the other is owned, and vice versa, however, there is no good explanation for this... If I were a judge, this map would be receiving mediocre scores for this category.
Despite all these points, all in all, I think it is a great effort from a new mapmaker!! Map has good potential as well![Edited on 05/02/10 @ 05:12 PM]

When I downloaded, I get an invalid zip file message from Vista. It works with most of the others out here. |
