SHADOW MAGIC MAPMAKING
Things - Fauna of AoW
The rather unusual and unique fauna of the Age of Wonders includes the Evil Woods,
Haste Berry Tree, Poison Plant, Sacred Woods, and Shadow Weed.
Each plantlife bestows its own variety of blessing or bane upon the trespasser.
NOTES:
- These things affect movement.
- These things cause damage or bestow a blessing (see thing listing).
- These things will hide an army that has the concealment skill (exception: Haste Berry Tree).
- Each of these things has special considerations (see thing listing).
|
These "things" can be found on the palette on the right side of the editor.
|
The Haste Berry Tree and Shadow Weed "things"

Evil Woods
- Forest movement cost (8 mp) to move into.
- Conceals units that have the concealment skill.
- Has a random chance of damaging good/pure good units when entered.
- Does not need to regenerate (or "regenerates" every day).
- Can be placed on any "land" terrain.
- Can not be razed.
- Can not be owned and does not clear fog-of-war.

Haste Berry Tree
- Normal movement cost (4 mp) to move into.
- Does not conceal a unit that has the concealment ability.
Restores total movement points when entered (if not yet used).
- Blessing (haste) on unit lasts for three days.
- Blessing ability regenerates after five days. On the fourth day of regeneration, looks same as a razed bush (when on "good" terrain).
- When placed on snow, desert, or wasteland, will not generate berries (no blessing). Will look like a bare tree on these terrain types.
- Can be razed by an army or the raze structure script, but can not be set as razed in editor.
- Can be rebuilt with rebuild structure script.
- Can not be owned and does not clear fog-of-war.
- See additional features below.

- will disappear on the sixth day if not disturbed; there may be a shadow on the map, but it tends to disappear as well.

Haste Berry Tree and Shadow Weed Notes
|
Haste Berry Tree and Shadow Weed can be edited. Select the "thing,"
then right-click on it to bring up the properties window. On this window these
"things" can be set to randomly generate defenders.
- There are five settings allowed: None, Weak, Average, Strong, and Random which
randomly selects one of the previous three settings.
- Note that the defender settings are somewhat random in nature; the site may not be guarded by
"strong" defenders just because the defenders setting was set to "strong."
- Setting the defenders to "weak" may result in no defenders.
Haste Berry Tree and Shadow Weed are the only "fauna" that can be manipulated by scripts.
