Things – Gold and Mana

The Gold and Mana things free resources a player can pick up on the map.

NOTES:

  • These things must be placed on land.
    (Some restrictions apply to Mana.)
  • These things are automatically picked up when an army moves to the location.
  • These things can be set to a specific or random amount.
  • If set to zero amount, these items will not show up on the scenario map.
  • The size of the amount affects the amount of glow of the thing.

The Gold and Mana “things” can be found at the top of the Places palette. The palette is on the right side of the editor.

Gold And Mana Properties
1) An amount is rewarded to the first player to move to it, and can be set as a fixed or random amount.
2) When an army enters the location of the Gold or Mana, it disappears and the player’s total gold/mana is updated.
3) The larger the amount, the brighter the pile.

Setting the Reward Amount
To set the amount of reward, right-click on the Gold or Mana to bring up the properties window. There are two ways to set the reward amount: by random amount or fixed amount.

1) Set a random amount.
Using the default setting, a random reward amount is generated. The amount can be tailored by setting it to one of four settings; “Normal” is the default setting.

SettingAmount
Low25-50
Normal50-75
High100-150
Random25-150

2) Set a specific amount.
Select the “user defined” setting and enter any amount. An amount of zero will cause the thing to not show up on the scenario map when played.

Placement of Gold and Mana

Gold – Can be placed most anywhere, but must be placed on land (will not “float” on water); can even be placed on mountains.

Mana – Can not be placed with most non-decoration items (things which affect the game), such as mountains, roads, trees, towers, and resource sites; can be placed with mushrooms, cave entrances, and cities.

Graphics Display
The graphics display of the Gold and Mana is affected by the amount. The larger the amount, the brighter the image glows and the larger pile looks. This feature has a limited effect and may not be noticeable without careful observation.

Multiple Gold and Mana Piles
Multiple copies of either can be placed at the same location.

The more Gold piles placed at a location, the brighter the yellow flicker, until it becomes an intense yellow glow.

The more Mana piles placed at a location, the brighter the blue flicker, until it becomes an intense blue glow.

Combining Gold and Mana creates a white flicker alternating with blue and yellow, becoming a burning white glow with blue and gold highlights.

As A Decoration
To a limited extent, Gold and Mana can be used to decorate the landscape, and even alter the look of the terrain. However, the use of either as a way to decorate a scenario map is of limited use, since the value can not be set to zero and still remain on the map, and because the Gold and Mana pile is removed from the map with the first army that moves on top of it.
